As an FYI for the forum,

As per a conversation with a gent from BW we can expect to see "project x" engines in a 150hp range early winter 2005, with the larger 200hp engines debuting early summer 2004.

I guess it comes down to the difference between showing the production engine at a boat show, which is anticipated for February 2004, and being able to go to a dealer and seeing them stacked up in crates in the warehouse. Given the very strong demand that is anticipated, you might not see that latter situation for several years.

Or ever.

According to Trailer Boats magazine, the project X motors will only be available as pre-rigged engines on new boats (Page 52, January 2004 issue).

Which is really too bad because I suspect that there will be quite a bit of demand for these engines as repower options. I'm sure that Mercury will announce a program to make them available as a repower option after the initial demand on new hulls is met and they begin to seek to further expand the market penetration of these motors after the initial launch phase.
