I have 1998 Outrage, with a blown 200 hp Mercury EFI engine and need to repower. I am considering the Yamaha 225 4 Stroke, but wonder about the possibility of twin smaller 4 strokes. Whaler tells me the boat is rated at 700lbs engine weight, but would like to stay around 600lbs total. I fish mostly 20-30 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico and would appreciate anyones personal experieces with the newer 4 strokes on this boat. Thanks

I am assuming you are talking about a 22' Outrage. A 225 four stroke would be very nice. I have a friend with one on his boat and it jsut purrs, also very very very easy on gas. The cost is pretty high but I see it as a good choice. Others will comment on the structure which I do not know much about.

Going with twin smaller fourstokes is also another option. If you do alot of fishing offshore etc. Twins may be the way to go. But your goal of 600lbs may be exceeded. I have a Yamaha F100 fourstroke and I think it weighs aroung 350. It all depends on your needs.
