The British marine electronic firm COMAR are in the process of introducing a new AIS receiver, the AIS MULTI RECEIVER SPLITTER. This will be a dual-channel AIS receiver combined with an antenna splitter, allowing the AIS receiver to share the vessel's main VHF radio antenna. The receiver data output is available in both NMEA-0183 serial data for connection to the usual marine instrument or chart plotter, as well as a USB connection to permit easy connection to a personal computer running an appropriate charting program.

The MSRP is £260, or about $375.

To review the COMAR product line of AIS receive devices, they have:

AIS 2 NMEA, a dual channel AIS receiver with NMEA-0183 output at £199 or $287;

AIS 2 USB, a dual channel AIS receiver with USB output at £215 or $310.

ASR 100, an antenna splitter at £72 or $104.

AIS MULTI combines all of these functions into one unit for £260, or about $375.

In the U.S. the distributor for COMAR is Milltech Marine.

They haven't added the new AIS MULTI product yet. COMAR is indicating delivery in March 2009 in the U.K.

This COMAR AIS MULTI receiver with antenna splitter should be less expensive than the ICOM MXA-5000 (which sells for about $500), and the COMAR will have the bonus of a USB output for use with computers.
