I'm glad to have found this site as it appears that there is much discussion on the Johnson motors.

From what I've read thus far, I'm interested in getting a confirmation on my model J30RESS.

I believe I have the following:
J - Johnson
30 - 30hp
R - ???
E - ???
S - 0
S - 0

Year appears to be 2000, if I'm right.
However not sure of what "RE" stands for.
Can anyone please assist?

R= Rope Start
ES= Model Year (in your case 1990)
Last "S" = Model run. Of no value, with the possible exception of the factory.

Do not use SMALL BOAT ELECTRICAL for discussion production history of outboard motors. SMALL BOAT ELECTRICAL is for discussion of electrical systems or electronics for small boats. Use the SEARCH function to locate many prior discussion about the model number codes used by OMC.
