GARMIN has given us a one-day preview of new products to be introduced at the marine equipment trade show (METS) in Amsterdam. See the GARMIN blog for details at exciting-announcements-for-garmin-marine.html#.UorwDyhvC_I

For the small boat electronic department, there will be new 8-inch and 10-inch multifunction displays in a GPSMAP 800 and GPSMAP 1000 series. They will have a chirp or pulse-compression SONAR built-in, a 10-Hz GPS receiver, and the new DownVü (that's a U with an umlaut in styled text).

There are more details now at

Garmin products GPS chartplotter products have been my personal choice for a number of years because I have found their user interface easiest to use. I'm surprised (perhaps a bit disappointed although I'm not in the market for any devices at this time) that they are not offering the 8 and 10 inch XS models with a touch screen. Now that I've had a full season with two Garmin touch screen chartplotter/sounders, I would not go back to a device that was only push button controlled.
