Any interest in a get-together of continouswave folks at the Detroit Boat Show? I'd like to meet up with any of the other Michigan/Ohio participants that are planning to attend. It's always a great break in the winter routine.

It sounds good to me. How can I help pull it together?
jimh posted 01-29-2002 09:31 AM ET (US)     Profile for jimh  Send Email to jimh
Count me in. I work just two blocks from Cobo, so it is easy to drop in to the show.

Are you thinking weekend or week night?

Either one is fine with me...certainly there will be less of a crowd on a weekday evening. I could be down at Cobo by 5:30 or so pretty much any day.

Or, if we did go on a weekend, we could meet somewhere central (like my office in Royal Oak) and car pool or caravan.

I don't know what the show hours are...anybody got that info?

I might be up for it. Weeknight would work better.

Date and Times?

A weekday evening works fine for me. And Jim is right downtown, so that sounds like a plan. Here is the show info off the Michigan Boat Industry website:

evening of the 12th or 13th is workable for me, at this point.

Dinner in Greektown (or someplace that Jim could recommend) before or after?

Is the Pontiac show diffrent in timing and scope?

jimh posted 02-01-2002 09:35 AM ET (US)     Profile for jimh  Send Email to jimh
The Pontiac Boat Show at the Silverdome usually shows smaller, trailerable boats, with emphasis on fishing, water skiing, etc.

I think there was only one Boston Whaler at the show last year.

A dealer friend of mine commented that they like the smaller Pontiac show because they tend to get more real customers there. At the big Cobo Hall show (at which they also exhibit) he said they get more BS-ers and fewer real buyers.

I think the Pontiac show starts today, by the way.

One week to go's time to get our act together if this is going to happen. Don expressed a preference for the evening of either the 12th (Tuesday) or 13th (Wednesday). I vote for the 12th...any other opinions?

We need a place to rendevous...the dinner suggestion in Greektown sounded pretty good. Or, we could go to Tom's Oyster Bar, Stoney Creek Brewery or any other place someone would like to try.

I'm still up for either night, and to meet wherever.

Will try and contact Jim Gibson too.

Detroit Group -

I just talked with Gibson, and he can make it on Tuesday evening. So.....

What about meeting on Tuesday at 6PM, in Greektown for dinner, then take the peoplemover over to Cobo?

That sounds good to me. Where in Greektown?
Ventura16 posted 02-06-2002 10:27 PM ET (US)     Profile for Ventura16  Send Email to Ventura16
Greektown @ 6PM on the 12th is great...I suggest either New Hellas or Parthenon. Also, I'm not sure the People Mover is running all the time... I heard something about problems during the Auto Show. Anyone know for sure?

Tuesday nite is good for me.

We can meet at the station, free parking, and walk to the show (2 blocks).

Dining optional for me (I have to work until about 6-6:30).

There is always the ANCHOR BAR for a burger and beer after. It's on the way back to station from Cobo.

No problem to walk a couple of blocks at night, especially if Don is along!

Jim -

Your offer sounds even better!. Will the Anchor still be open around 7-8 or should we "dine" (others need to be aware of why I put that in quotes, when talking about the Anchor) prior to going over to Cobo?

I know I can make it there, you might want to post some directions for the rest of the group....

Ventura16 posted 02-07-2002 07:13 PM ET (US)     Profile for Ventura16  Send Email to Ventura16
Sounds like a great plan to me...I always enjoy the Anchor. ;-)

If anyone else is coming in from the northern suburbs and wants to carpool downtown, we can meet at my office in downtown Royal Oak...we have tons of free, secure parking. Just post something here, or send me a quick email and I can supply directions.

BTW, did anyone else see the article about the Hinckley Picnic Boat in today's Free Press? They are opening a sales office in Petoskey...think we could scam 'em into a sea trial?

Gee, this is starting to sound like a party.
I'm tempted to drive over Monday night, and spend Tuesday in my office in Troy, them meet up with you guys.

Kingfish, are you out there? Want to join in?

Hi, Larry-

I've been watching this develop and had started to think about whether I could get over there Tuesday night - it's starting to sound pretty interesting.

I think I'll see if I can get enough chores done around the homestead over the weekend to get dispensation. I'll keep you posted-

Come on, you guys...lhg, kingfish and anyone else who's on the fence. Let's get together and have some fun...what else is there to do in mid-February?

lhg posted 02-08-2002 05:56 PM ET (US)     Profile for lhg
I have just been informed by a lady that next
Tuesday is my birthday, and she has made plans for me. I'll know by the end of the weekend if I can make it.

How was the show - I was thinking of going this weekend - had school last night.
Ventura16 posted 02-13-2002 08:34 PM ET (US)     Profile for Ventura16  Send Email to Ventura16
Sorry you couldn't make it, Ben. We had a great time...see Jimh's show commentary on the General forum under "Detroit Boat Show". I took a few photos which Jim is threatening to post.

Colony Marine had quite a few Whalers there...basically the entire line except for the 160 & 210 Venturas (they did have one of the new 180 Venturas), the 275 & 295 Outrages, and the 275 Conquest. The new Outrage 210 is quite nice...and the 255 Conquest is very roomy.

We also looked at Grady's, Pursuits, Trophys, Seacraft, the Hinckley Picnic Yacht, Seaswirl, all the new outboards, and a bunch of other stuff. It's well worth the trip...if for no other reason than to get those boating juices flowing early.
