OK kids, here we go again. I'll check the season dates, and we can pick a weekend. First few weekends is very crazy up there, so later in the season would be a bit better. Less chance of getting run over by an extended redneck family in their Carolina Skiff. We can do camping on our land as well. It is about 40 mins from Stienhatchee, but can be more lively than the banjo players.

I belonged to the Gainesville Offshore Fishing Club when I was a student at UF. We always had a club scalloping trip, which I went up for last year. They always are scheduled for August due to the volume of people that are there for the opening weekends. It's also very hard to get reservations for that period, usually need to be made a year in advance.
I'm just waiting to see what the consensus is for when we'll meet, so I can try to reserve a room.

Did it 2 years ago and stayed at the Eldorao hotel. Like $50 a night and about 10 miles south of the boat ramp. We caught a cooler full and spent the whole night drinking beer and shucking. I wound up with about 2lbs of bay scallop meat. This time I will fetch them and donate them to whoever wants them. I will then stop at Winn-Dixie and buy some already shucked.

I think we went the last week in may or june? and it was hot but tons of fun and beautiful to boot.

We stayed right accross from the high school and the pickup trucks were lined up on the roadside with deer heads on the toolboxes. I guess they were trying to woo a prom date or something......very strange.

PS: Do not put scallops in your shorts pocket when your bag is full, when they try to swim away they can really freak you out....or hurt you:)

Hey.... sounds like fun. It is not too far a drive from Mobile, AL. I speak "redneck" so maybe I can translate for the group.
