Right smack dab in the middle of barnegat bay(NW of Barnegat inlet) lies Tice's shoal. It is on the map so check it out. We are gona have a rendezvous there on Saturday June 12th and it might pour over to sunday June 13th. Tice's is a great place with clear water(usually) and a short walk to the ocean over some dunes. We plan on meeting late morning, monitor channel 68. Bring your cooler with beverages and food, no place too close to get supplies. Please post if you plan on attendending and MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Bow up and throttle down!

I should have a few boats coming, not all whalers but who cares.

Well Done Biggie- I'll be there!!! For those that are unfamiliar with the area here are a couple of links to information on IBSP. Don't be concerned with the fee's they only apply to those driving on access roads or the beach, they don't apply to those arriving by boat.

My workboat, the CPD equivalent of the 22 Outrage, just so happens to have a 200 Merc with a 2:1 lower unit and a four blade prop. It outruns and out powers all our Honda powered boats. Being a certified Merc tech I am kind of partial to them, even though the Honda's are bullet proof. My own boat is an old 16'7" with a 90 Yamaha which has been very faithful.

I also work for Ocean Beach Marina, formerly Pelican, with MMMark. I even used to work with Woody and Judy back in the day

I'll be there, thanks for following up on this idea.

Just might stop in on the way back from fishing, provided someone is still there late in the day.

Awfully crowded area though, with all of the people who don't fish going there and anchoring instead of properly using their boats.

Bigshot posted 04-19-2004 01:46 PM ET (US)     Profile for Bigshot  Send Email to Bigshot
We ARE properly using our boats.....doing the same as you except we don't have to buy bait. Think of all the money we save by not trolling all day. When I bump into you while buying fish at Shop-Rite, mine cost MUCH less per pound then yours :)
TightPenny posted 04-19-2004 05:02 PM ET (US)     Profile for TightPenny  Send Email to TightPenny
I started calculating the cost per fish right after I bought the Montauk. After the first trip, the cost per fish was somthing around $3500.00 each. The cost has gone down substantially now.

I still prefer to catch mine, D**n the cost.

Montauks are for fishing, IMHO :)

Sounds like a plan! I will make every attempt to be there. Thanks for putting it together Bigshot. If I can help with anything please let me know- I am local to the area- boat is at Good Luck Point in Bayville. Looking forward to meeting all.

Bigshot, First thanks for going to bat and getting this started. We will try our best to be there with two post whalers. I wanted to get to the Stuart one but was not able to. Can you give us some launching ramps in the area? We are in the great bay area in the summer but will have to decide to come by water or trailer. Thanks in advance for the ramp info. Lou
SpeedBump posted 04-20-2004 07:58 AM ET (US)     Profile for SpeedBump  Send Email to SpeedBump
Lou - IF you are going to trailer to the barnegat bay area you have lots of choices for ramps along the mainland area from the town of Barnegat all the way up to Toms River.

LBI also hosts many ramps, it may be a pain in the neck dealing with the weekend traffic unless you come on the island early in the day, like before 9:00am. Forked RIver is across the bay from Tices Shoal, a number of marinas along Lacey Road, East of Route 9, Townsends, South Winds have ramps for a few bucks access. There is a free township ramp on Lakeside Drive, east of Route 9, not much to look at but it is free. After a leisurly cruise down Forked River's No Wake Zone it is a quick 10-15 min trip across the bay to Tices.

Coming up from Great bay area you may choose the Township dock in Barnegat on the mainland just east of Rt 9 and not far from the GS Parkway. Lots of parking in their lot, a nice town to visit, and a good trip up the bay to Tices.

Check with these two Boston Whaler dealers, Hance and Smyth in Manahawkin or Ocean Beach Marina in Lanoka Harbor, perhaps they will allow you access to their ramps.

Bigshot posted 04-20-2004 11:56 AM ET (US)     Profile for Bigshot  Send Email to Bigshot
H&S does not allow use of their ramp as far as I know. Mainland ramps I know nothing about except in Manahawkin and Barnegat. If you need to know about LBI ramps, let me know. Traffic on saturday is hell no matter where you are on the GSP. I stress to all to leave REAL early on saturday morning if you plan to trailer south on GSP. Coming North, you should be OK until LBI or Toms River area. I NEVER leave LBI on the weekends due to the traffic. Being early June it might be OK but then again I moved in 1998 and I know traffic has not softened up. I will be there via either a 17' Whaler, 27' Progression, or 21' Mako. If I can't steal either I will be there via a Bobbie's rent-a-wreck(rowboat w/8hp @ inlet)....another words I WILL be there!

One more thing. People... bring bug spray. And preferably a flame thrower for the greenheads. I think this kind of rendezvouz might be real neat....

Thanks BigShot, Looks like Forked River will work just nice. When we get back up north we will take a ride and check out the ramps in the area. Thanks again. If you don't get a ride maybe we could meet and you could hichhike a ride with us. Lou

I'd like to attend but not sure if I'll have a boat and it's a long swim. Just struck a deal on a 13' but it needs lots of work and my other boats are up north. I've already made an inquiry to another board member who has express interest and ofered a ride, he has yet to chime in. Haven't seen North Beach post in a while either, I'll send him an e-mail. Look forward to meeting everyone.
SpeedBump posted 04-21-2004 10:22 AM ET (US)     Profile for SpeedBump  Send Email to SpeedBump
Lou- don't sweat it, I confuse members on the board all the time. If you need additional info about Forked River drop me a line.

AUBV- If your whaler is not done in time for the rendezvous you could always take a drive to IBSP and join us. There is a parking area at the access path from Tices Shoal on the bay side to the beach on the ocean side.
Tices gets very shallow and I assume most boats will be anchored in the shallows so you can wade out and join the fun, meet members and see some very nice whalers.

Sal A - Tices is very family friendly, As for the rendezvous --- I would hope so. Fairly high caliber of members here from the posts I have seen. But then again there are always exceptions. :>)

Well.....parents threw a wrench into the machine. They now have to close on their house in late May instead of late June. No place for me to stay and no reason for me to come to NJ. If this is the case....enjoy without me but ENJOY none the less! I will keep ya'll posted.

Don't sweat me...if I am not in NJ I will be in Belize or Buenos Aires doing some diving. Which would you rather do, help your parents move furniture or suck down some brews in a foreign paradise?

Thats too bad bigshot, I sure we'll all get along just fine in your absence. Was looking forward to commiserating with you about whalers. Some other time i guess.
North Beach posted 04-26-2004 09:58 AM ET (US)     Profile for North Beach
I am planning on attending in my 18 outrage. It is as good a place for a meeting as there is in the area, I think (except for alcoholic beverage prohibition, I presume). Will bring (at least) my 8 year old, so not sure how long he can make it. Key now is for good weather.

Too bad about Bigshot. (The home market on north end LBI positively on fire, not surprised his parents house sold so fast. Drove by it - a fine home at a fat price.)

Bigshot posted 04-26-2004 03:12 PM ET (US)     Profile for Bigshot  Send Email to Bigshot
Sucks they sold so fast but what can I do. Headin to Belize(Ambergris Caye) instead with another couple, should be a howlin good time. I plan on coming up to NJ MAYBE for my birthday in August, might have to plan another get together.

We are approaching June...

Do we still have a Barnegat Bay Motley Crew Flotilla of Whalers looking to meet at Tices Shoal at some point? Late June? July? August? I am flexible and would like to meet some other Whaler owners and see their rides.

Bigshot posted 05-24-2004 01:09 PM ET (US)     Profile for Bigshot  Send Email to Bigshot
Again I plan on being up in Barnegat for August 9th(B-Day). Don't wait for me but if this happens in August I will be there....I promise this time. Going to Belize in 10 days so have fun without me if you do meet at Tice's.

I am still planning on being there, a bit later than originally planned but there none the less. It is a wonderful thing having children that have recitals in the middle of the day on a perfect weekend....enough said.. looking forward to meeting all of the Barnegat Bay Motley Crew Flotilla of Whalers and their Captains.

Just as an asside I saw oldblue's 1989 red Mischief today... what a nice Whaler. We should try to get him to join this event. It would be THE headturner at the rendezvous..

Looks like it is pretty fragmented right now; seems to have waned when Bigshot canned. I would still love to hook up.

I think I would actually prefer a Sunday morning June 21 meeting at Tices Shoal. My guess it would be a haul for you?
You would come up the Garden State Parkway, and exit near Toms River. There are a few boat launches I think near Forked River, Lanoka Harbor, etc. Actually Mark Daffner, the manager of the Boston Whaler dealership in Lanoka would probably be amenable to launching at his place...and he has a sweet 210 Outrage himself. Plus there is a forum member CaptReils who works there.

Any feedback from NJ guys (and nearby) about that Sunday morning in Tices? I'd love to meet some other forum members. We would get swell stares that's for sure.

I'll still be in for August if anything goes down then. I'm ashamed to admit my Whaler is still high and dry since October. Wife and Mom projects come first.

I know what you mean Speedbump, just found out last week my daughter will be playing in a soccer tournament both Saturday and Sunday the weekend of June 12. It is great to watch her play but really kills the boating weekends.

Yiddil, you are looking at a four to five hour ride from there depending on traffic. Route 95 north to 295north/Delaware Memorial Bridge into New Jersey. When in New Jersey you can take 295 north to route 70 east to get here. Or the New Jersey Turnpike to 73 south to route 70 east. Depending on where you will launch I'll be happy to give you exact directions to there.

I would like to meet everyone but things seem to pop up on short notice that I have no control over so I cannot make a "firm" commitment to a date. If it is scheduled I will make every effort to attend.

Wow I can't believe how many people on this forum are from the barnegat bay area. I wish I could make it but like someone else said dance recitals on the weekends. I wish they would change them to a week a night. Anyway tice's is great I have 3 young kids and we go there every other weekend in the summer they love just swimming in the bay there, its knee deep and pretty clean and a short walk to the ocean. the only bad thing is when there is no breeze on hot days, those green flies are the size of helicopters and will eat you alive. I hope there is another time to get together. It would be great to look out and see all whalers.
North Beach posted 06-05-2004 08:57 AM ET (US)     Profile for North Beach
I still hope to come by, but it does appear to be fragmenting . .. My boat is not yet in the water (due to wrong size repolacement steerign cables!). If it rains thru this weekend or the wrong size shows up again and I cant get the correct ones installed and get the boat in on time, I cant be there.

PS In South Jersey, this weekend is dance rectital time!

I would have loved to make my first Rendezvous. I live in Central Jersey and could have pulled my Montauk down no problemo! Unfortunatly I work weekends so alas I can not. Have a ball.

I had all intentions of bring there, but electrical gremlins leave me high and dry. Missed the early bluefish bite in the bay, which really hurt. My alternate plans are to head over to IBSP and walk over to Tices to snap some pix of the fleet. For all those attending have a great time; weather for Sat is looking good, maybe questionable on Sun.
SpeedBump posted 06-08-2004 03:13 PM ET (US)     Profile for SpeedBump  Send Email to SpeedBump
I am still planning to be there later in the day saturday and will stop on Sunday also if there are CW members around, it's not a big problem since I am in Forked River 10 minutes away from Tices.

It appears it is tough to schedule these events too far in advance given the family commitments many CW members have for the kids extracuricular activities on weekends that don't have long range planning calendars.

Perhaps it would be better to try and schedule a "pick up rendezvous" with 2-3 weeks notice. I don't think interest waned after Biggie bailed on the event, I think the date that falls just befor the end of the school year made it difficult. The JCAA fluke tournement is also on June 12th which is a one day fishing event that I'm sure many whaler owners that fish would not want to pass up. Late June, July or August would have probably been a better time.

Regardless of how this works out I'm looking forward to meeting a few CW members that can show up. If using VHF on your boats monitor channel 19, members attending could hail/call for "Continuous Wave Members" for exact locations of other members.

Not only the JCAA but the McCarthy Marine Boston Whaler, Cape Craft, Mako, Grady White 6th Annual Fluke Shootout is on that day. I'll be there on the 12th fishing out of Manasquan Inlet.

I might take a ride down on Sunday, if there is anyone around.

Speedbump you are right about the family stuff. Actually have two little league games on Saturday now, and one on Sunday. How about we start a NEW thread about a pick up meeting around the first half of July? Either July 3rd or July 10th?

I may have a window of oppurtunity to pop in on Sat, just saw this thread. Tices is a great place, Bigs mentioned clear water, some of the old timers used to call it "clear water" cove.

SpeedBump posted 06-11-2004 02:44 PM ET (US)     Profile for SpeedBump  Send Email to SpeedBump
Depending on how you classify "oldtimers" there are still a lot of younger locals that call it "clear water" also.

Sal A - Saturday, July 3 would be a good day, It's 4th of July weekend and anyone with a Whaler would probably be on the water. Tices would be crowded but it is really accessible even on a holiday weekend and a sight to behold. Most Whalers get in tight to the beach where larger boats dare not go.
If anyone is interested post a new thread for the 3rd. I'll be down there that weekend and will certainly be passing through. Will be internetless after tonight until the 5th, if people are interested in the 3rd I'll see you there by default ;-).... will hail you on 19 and 68.
