Anyone interested in a Rendezvous down in the St Clements Island/Potomac River area? Got a perfect marina/w launch at Colton Point/St. Patricks Creek/Cathers marina...Maryland side, then we can head out to numerous bays and sand bars with calm waters, swimming, skiing, fishing, relaxing, jetskiing etc for the day. Ships store and gas avail. at the marina, also great launch, in protected creek...even do the sieght seeing at St Clements or hit the cliffs for sharks teeth hunting on the virgina side (river is 4 miles wide down here...lots of water and vertualy no boat traffic...or head up river for lunch at cobb Island or colonial beach:) Let me know preferences...days....Im good any day, every day...:) Henry AKA THE YIDDIL

(Located 20 natical miles up the Potomac from Chesapeake Bay)

Hopefully when I get the prop dialed in and I am a tad more comfy with the boat I can come by river. Unless I get this trailering thing down cause it's a long way for me to drive. I'll let you know when I make it to the 301 bridge, then maybe we'll be able to plan something. Henry, know any ramps on the virginia side?

KAmie, was down on the Potomac again today...what gorgeous day:) heading back tomorrow........Crossed from the Maryland side to the Virginia side swiped pass the "cliffs, then headed back to a favorite place "shipping Point" on the maryland side in ST. Clements Bay, droped a hook , and went swimming, relaxed and chilled till nite fall........less than a foot to calm today...also tomorrow...Im sure Ill return:)

Let me know Kamie, when you get all settled...Gregg thinking about the 4th of July for a meeting,,,we have a nice launch at the Marina...or maybe meet you at Cobb ISland for some great taste sea food:))About 45 minutes for me to Cobb ISland......But you should see my set up at Cathers Marina...its sweet, cheap and in some of the most pristine and secluded waters around here...on a sat I saw 4 boats in the bay, and three on the river...very gorgeous out here...calm bays all over, when the river gets kickin.........and with my back, I dont have to trailer it all over the country side....That Teaparty was a great event, but was murder on my back so I skipped the Potomac and Bay swims...on Doctors advice:)

Get it done and then we can all meet and relax on ZZ Potomac:))Henry AKA THE YIDDIL

Okay people, heres the latest on the Potomac meet...spke to the Marina Owner and he says "Come on down 3, 4 5, July Let me know which day is best for everyone...launch is a easy good one, bring your own food or buy food at the grocery near buy...bout a mile...we can have a cook out if you like...or just bring pot luck:) my preference...Since its so overnite slips are available, but ships store is...theres a sand bar beach a mile away in St Clements Bay. Ill be bringing a YAmaha jetski for the younger fols if I can get it up and ready in two weeks:) Lots of calm water in the bay for swimming, good fishing, and lots of great water...can even doa resturate hop on the Potomac if weather permits and people wanna go...can cross the Maryland side to Virginia in 10 minutes in the Nantucket...beach the boats and sharks tooth hunting at the Namini cliffs if you like....or fish till you drop........

But I need to know whos coming and which day is can write me back channel if you like:))

After Teaparty, resting my back down there as I hvae a slip and doctor says no towing for a while....been going three four times a week:)) Need more Whalers:)))

see ya soon, Henry AKA THE YIDDIL

For those of you farther south than DC on the Virginia side you can launch at Westmoreland State Park. It's just up river from St Clements Island.
There is a $3 launch fee. There is also camping at the park.

If you are around the DC area it's actually shorter to drive to St Clements than to drive to Westmoreland Park.

Hi Henry,

What's the news on this get-together? Due to some other commitments with the kids, we're available only Sunday (or Friday, since we're making this an extra-long weekend). Would love to get down there and check out that part of the Potomac, as we never got around to it last year. Especially looking forward to going over to the cliffs. As Kamie suggests, St. Patrick's Creek is about 20 minutes closer from Northern VA than Westmoreland St Pk is, so we'd be game to join you there for starters.

We spent the day yesterday on Lake Anna, west of Fredericksburg VA. It's pretty there and we had a fun time in the relatively clear fresh water, but of the hundreds of boats we saw, there was not another Whaler to be found on the whole lake. After our last 2 outings (Chestertown and the Bay Swim), we felt sort of out-of-place!

Marlin. Sounds great!!!Sunday will be fine as long as the weather cooperates....right now there talking about some rain some part of the weekend...but if the weather holds you won't be disapointed.....

I take 495 to Rt 5 Branch Ave South...guess you can to from the other direction...follow that (Rt 5) through Waldorf and just keep going on RT 5 till you hit a right turn (still Rt 5) the WAWA store.......then follow that on a real nice stretch of country road till you hit a brown sign says "St Clements Island, Colton Point" and make that right turn SHould be 242.......and follow that straight till you almost hit Colton Point......youl see Colton Point Marina...and a little bit down the road and around a quick turn youl see a Cathers marina Sign....bare left and follow it into the Marina.....Let me know what time is good for you....No early wake up nessessary here...If you leave 9:30 can be in the water by 11:30-12noon....should take 1 1/2 hours total...Maybe friday or Sat...we can email just to firm things up and maybe talk on the phone......I asked Scott to Join us as well........So SUNDay it is:))

Marlin posted 07-02-2004 08:25 AM ET (US)     Profile for Marlin  Send Email to Marlin
Kamie, it'll be good to meet you, but we're going to be tight- 3 people and 2 retrievers fills up a 16' boat pretty well. Sounds like you got the prop problems worked out, something else going on with your boat now?

I'm thinking I'll arrive down there 10-11 AM. Henry, I'll mail you my cell phone number. Weather reports right now look a bit iffy for Sunday, but we'll just have to hope they firm up nicely.

Hi everyone:) Hope every Got home safely:)I have to tell you all how wonderful it was to see you all, and excited I was you all came down for the Rendezvous!!!!!Even though the waether was a bit wet (hehe) and the waters at the mouth of St. Clements Bay, and the Potomac were pretty turbulant, I had a great time rafting up, oggling everyones boats, talking, swimming in the rain, and generally having a wonderful time even if the weather wasn't perfect. Thnaks for taking the long treck down to Cathers. Sorry I could hit all the bays and creeks around do to the weather, but you got a sampling of what this place holds in the way of boating etc. It is an exceptional place for Whalers and its families:)Your all invited back anytme, and I think Im gonna call for a yearly get together with of course better weather...

The four of us handled the heavey water pretty well from what I could see, next time , better weather:)) and lets do it again soon:) Ill be mailing you some photos shortly:)) I havnt a one of "Das Boat" Battery went we were comin in:) But what Nice site the four of us comin in to CAthers:))WE owned the Potonmac this day:)) Ill report more laterHenry AKA THE YIDDIL

Sounds like a good time in spite of the weather. Can't wait to see the pictures.
Marlin posted 07-05-2004 09:12 PM ET (US)     Profile for Marlin  Send Email to Marlin
I'm sure we were quite the sight- four Whalers rafted up, every scrap of canvas we could find tied off someplace to keep the rain out (we pulled our mooring cover out and stretched it from the bow up over the bimini; it worked surprisingly well), a bunch of soggy people and a big wet dog wondering whether the sun will come out. You gotta give the kids a lot of credit, the rain didn't stop them from having a great time swimming.

Naturally the weather was terrific on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Ah well, that's the breaks. We'll just have to try it all over again sometime soon.
