Hi everyone,

I am curious about what makes a great rendezvous event besides the friendships and meeting some great people ? From past events what was the highlight for you ? As well what type of things do you like to see at events ?

I think what makes a really great rendezvous is a great venue, the opportunity to discuss whalers with other owners and learn about their boats.
A well organised day with a written cruise plan with a local chart is a big help and of course a common VHF channel is a must.
A raftup or marina destination lets everyone socialize and show off their particular model.
Family events/games etc. are always fun for the kids and a BBQ gives everyone the chance to get to know each other.
If it is to be an overnight affair a good waterfront restaurant works for all.
Hope you have a load of fun.

Hi David,

I have never been on a rendevous before. So I am curious if fellow members would prefer a mutiple day event or just a one or two day event. Nova Scotia has so many wonderful places to boat and things to see. It is hard to pick. As well I would think it is nice to have activites for the various ages of people who would be attending especially the younger crowd with young familes. I know my kids while they like running in the Whaler get tired pretty quick and would rather have fun on the beach, corn boil, clam bake etc..

Hi Swell,

When you say driving other whalers, do other owners just swap you their boat and everyone takes a turn or do you just swap baots you are interested in. As well the florida events sometimes have a whaler dealer there, does this add or subtract from the event in your opinion.

yeah... Ask Swellmonster about the airtime he got in my Dauntless!!! Never saw my boat fully out of the water before until he took over! I didn't feel too bad though since I was on his Outrage at the time doing the same!. Also got to run Frank's (fno) Outrage a few miles out in the gulf. It's a great time and get to see what everyone has and what's good and bad about them (the whalers).

We've had fun at 1 day events because day 2 is sometimes a little hard to get everyone back together and organized. Unless, you take over a motel like at Macrae's last year we had about 15 rooms booked and were all together the next day for some more fun.
We had a great time in Orange beach last year all together on Saturday but Sunday not too many were around-locals heading home, most others staying too far apart to really get going again but had a great Friday night dinner get together and made plans/itinerary for the next day.

Hi Scott,

One is my family doctor and the other is brother who is a lawyer I think. They are both checking as we speak to see if they can arrange the time.

Hi Larry,

Where are they from, are they out of Halifax or the Eastern shore? WHat do they run for boats?

NPG, or Larry,

Like Chris said......

Dealers are fun too, they dont get in the way, they have their time and places too.

Boston Whaler dealer has been very gracious, generous and supportive to our Floida gang.

After a few beverages, I sat down with MR. Myers, and thought about changing the company name. Since whalers were not made up north any more, now made in Florida, we could have the "Florida Whaler Club" or simply put "FWC" on the side of our Whalers. I did see another company like this, but they have blue lights on theirs... ;)

Hi Scott,

One of the guys is from the Eastern Shore and the other is from New Brunswick.

My doc runs a classic 1988 Outrage 18 with a 130 Honda and his brother or brother in law not sure as I do not like to pry runs a 21 foot Outrage not sure of power or year. Will see if I can find out.

It would be nice to see some tentative deatils when you get a chance.

The date is firmly planted for July 23rd. I have posted several links as per the request on the original thread with respect to accomodation etc.

I have not been doing much in way of communication on the forum as almost all the people coming are not on this forum.

I will do my best to keep every posted on the site.
