Ok, here's the deal. Usually I take a week in July and a week in August, tow the 11' Whaler behind the "big" boat around New England waters and gunk hole - just me and my dog. This year I'm not available 'til September, and don't have the "big" boat in the water due to work commitments.

So, let me ask this question. If you lived in CT, had an 11' Sport and an 18' Outrage, both on new trailers, what would your itinerary be or suggested stops for a few days pretty much anywhere on the east coast? I was set to do Florida until Binkie started in about dogs being Gator bait in the Dog Aboard post here on CW, but I suppose if I'm real careful about where we go and when I let my dog go into the water, we should be ok.

I bet there are real nice cruising grounds that in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of September (barring hurricanes) that would rival a New England summer day and have dog friendly beaches, dog friendly motels/bed&breakfasts etc.

Where would you go? What would you do? Would you take the 11 or 18?

If you want to come to Florida, I would not do it in September if at all possible. I would wait until until October and hopefully the hurricane season will be some what over. The fall in Florida is beautiful, water temps are still up and the day time temperatures have moderated, all and all my favortie time of the year. Another great reason is that all the schools have started and the hotel rates have gone down until the winter season begins. Now the upper east coast of Florida in MY OPINION is not really boater friendly, execpt if you really know where you are going good water/boating accomodations are kinda rare. You could consider some areas in North Central Florida, such as Cedar Key, Steinhatchee, Suwannee River, Crystal River etc can be fun fishing and boating for a few days or weeks. More and more pet friendly hotels are showing up. The Faraway inn in Cedar Key is pet friendly.
By the way do not worry too much about the alligators, I live with them as neighbors, having said that, dogs even humans are alligator bait but only in remote, little traffic areas. Most gators will move away from commotions caused by boats etc. just be alert to where you let him swim. The worst case senerio would be that some of the local people are idiots and and have been feeding the gators, and then they become unafraid of people and boats and dangerous.
