I've got a question about a situation that occurred last Sunday morning when I was pulling away from the my favorite launch ramp under the GW Bridge in NJ.
As I backed away from the dock I went to turn the steering wheel and it wouldn't budge. I quickly took it out of gear and was able to manuever back to the dock. Luckily I hadn't gone a few feet further or I'd be in the main current of the Hudson...not a fun place to be with no steering and a moving tide.
After a minute or two of rocking the wheel, it gradually freed up. Apparently the teleflex steering mechanism was binding and needs lubrication. Is anyone familiar with this steering system? What preventative maintenance should I be doing that I'm neglecting?

You should add fluid to your steering system and replace the o-ring. You should also lubricate the steering system. Teleflex has a good website with decent maintenance information. I don't have the site handy but do a search on google and you will find it.
