After searching for some Rage forums I think this page have some of the best info so far.
I own a 1994 rage with the OMC turbo jet. The boat is great fun and personally more fun than my other whaler (outrage 18 with Merc 150 hp) but with two diff purposes. However, I still would love some more speed with the JET. Have any of you heard of people replacing the OMC with the Merc XR2 block (175 hp jet)?
Thanks in advance
enjoy the waves....

I believe there is minor differences in the hull where the jet intake is.TUNA1 was working on that swap,so check with him.he's our resident Rage expert.

Using the search function, I once found where Tuna1 made a note that the hulls were somewhat different between the OMC and the Mercury years, so the XR2 was not a bolt in replacement. (presuming you walked into a Mercury dealer and found a 175 Sport Jet sitting on the showroom floor waiting for a boat).
Tuna1 also noted that there are slight modifications which can be made to the OMC to give it 2-4mph additional top end. However, has has noted that these OMC powered Rages will never be anything like their later brothers with 175Hp... I desparately want to try the performance kit which comes with a loader intake grate, and a different nozzle, but I have a hard time justifying it over everything else in my life.
I keep trying to get Tuna1 to do a Vulcan mind-meld with me, so I can catch up to his know-how on the Rage series. However, he's similar to Captain Kirk and resists the mind-meld idea... :)
I have to agree that my 15' Rage is a completely different flavor of fun from my 15' Boston Whaler Sport...

If the change is not a simple bolt-on and the kit where2 mentions will not give you enough speed why not just trade up to 175hp Rage? Might be less cost and effort. I feel that my 115 has enough speed for me but the BW rep at a show said when the 175 came out that it had more power to digest weeds.
