I just bought a 2004 Montauk 170 with fish pkg, rear bench seat, VHF, GPS, Sounder, Stereo, bimini. 100 hrs. It has a non-EFI 90 4-stroke - I wanted the EFI but there were too many other options on this boat to pass on the $25K price ($2K worth or electronics). Used Whalers really move fast around here.

I moved down from a 24' ProLine with a Yamaha 225, but feel like I've moved up....

Thanks to all who answered a lot of my dumb questions in these forums over the past couple of months...

Congrats on a great boat. You are going to enjoy the Whaler without a doubt.

Perfect time of year to get some hours in that you can think about over the winter.

Or better yet, trailer that new beauty down here to Florida and trade in catching stripers for some Snook.

Congrats Jim and welcome to the ever growing group of 170 Montauk owners. I'm sure you will enjoy your boat very much. You made a good choice as it's the best boat in it's class.

Good luck and safe Whalering.

I think Merc 90s are all EFI now, but in general there are plenty of 4-strokes out there that are carbed.

you will find that the 170 montauk an all around performer.
Great gas mileage, fish all day and still have gas left.
And it won't cost you that much to keep. Plus, it fits in your garage.

yes, I own two boats.
I always will have a montauk no matter what. I found that this boat lets me do what I need to do.
Then I have a larger boat, A Hydrasports 22 wa.

so far this season, since price of fuel is so high I have NOT used the hydrasports at all.

I fish every weekend, and fuel prices do affect me.
