Compare 1984 OUTRAGE 18 and 1998 OUTRAGE 17 II

Postby MisChief15 » Tue May 21, 2024 1:06 pm

I am considering buying one of two boats: a 1984 [OUTRAGE] 18 or a 1998 OUTRAGE 17 II.

Q1: if everything were equal, which boat would you buy?

Q2: which boat will ride better in rough conditions?

For me, I would buy the 1998 OUTRAGE 17 II.

The reasons for choosing the 17 are because everything is NOT equal. The OUTRAGE 17 is 14-years newer, is easier to trailer, and better suits my boating needs at this moment. Also the engine on the newer boat is probably also newer, a very significant consideration because the cost of re-powering with a new engine will be very high.

I have been on both [an OUTRAGE 18 and an OUTRAGE 17 II] off the New England coast in snotty conditions.

The Outrage 17 II hands down handles better due to its hull design and added weight.

Thank you very much Jim and Phil.
I am getting a 1998 Outrage 17 II this Saturday.

This 1998 OUTRAGE 17 II comes with Sunbrella Bimini with boot, a Sunbrella mooring cover, a Sunbrella console cover including cooler seat forward and seating area.

I may add a forward shelter. I contacted the Wm. J. Mills & Co. and asked about the shelter with frame. The quoted me a cost $1370 with frame and boot, and a lead time of four to six weeks. I think I will get this one once the boat is home.

I am super excited. Thanks again for all your help.

I learned my lesson many years ago.

Run the boat as is for the season and THEN make your list of upgrades.

You may find that your initial ideas change after three-months of use.
