1996 17 Outrage II Value

Postby Tomkan67 » Thu Mar 09, 2017 6:55 am

I've come across a nice Boston Whaler boat, and I need some help on its pricing. The boat is a 1996 17 Outrage II with a 1995 Yamaha 150 SaltwaterSeries with 500-hours run time. All maintenance is documented. Its condition is a 9 or 9.5 out of 10. It comes with original trailer, canvas package, Bimini--all also in excellent condition. Also, it has the teak package for the console doors and [gunwale] top plates. This is a one-owner, freshwater-only boat. The seller is asking ~$25,000--which seems high. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Where is the boat? Location is a big factor. CA is higher, FL lower etc.
Dealer or Private Sale?
A photo or two would help.

Sorry can't download photo now, will try later. (Most of SE Michigan is without power this morning). The boat is a Lake Michigan boat (Wisconsin). It's a private sale but sounds like the owner works at a Whaler dealer. Any range would be helpful. Thanks again,

In today's market, $25,000 buys a lot of 20-year-old used boat, generally a 20-year-old used boat quite a bit longer than 17-feet.

Price can be affected by local market forces. A beautify Boston Whaler in Wisconsin with only freshwater use could command a premium price in that locality.

I see two advantages with the boat:

--the 150 instead of the 115. I felt my 1997 17 Outrage II was underpowered with the 115

--a freshwater boat.

If you use the NADA guide you come up with about $7,500. Given that the NADA guide is usually way undervalued when it comes to Whalers, even doubling the book value to $15,000 would be the number I would be working around.

At $25,000 you could probably buy a new leftover 17' Montauk.
Thanks,
