Life without a Whaler in the water

Postby jimp » Wed May 31, 2017 12:28 pm

Sad day last July when I sold my 1990 Revenge 22 – W.T. What a great boat for 19 seasons.

But, things change, we get older. You get a bigger and slower boat… but with a few more “creature comforts” like 3-burner propane stove with oven, refrigerator, freezer, generator, hot & cold running water, shower, VERY comfortable & big v-berth, settee in the deckhouse that converts to two bunks, radar, BIG 12” chart plotter, huge cockpit, and three anchors (hey, they came with the boat!). All wrapped up in a 1989 Wilbur 34 Weekender.

We just had a very enjoyable Memorial Day weekend aboard “The WILBUR”, 100-mile round trip to Funter Bay in pretty nice weather but with a bit of 4-5’ chop thrown in on the last morning.

Not entirely done Whalering, I still have the 1968 Squall drying in the garage, next weigh-in coming in a few weeks. http://continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea/cetaceaPage67.html

Hi Jim--what a delight to see the new eponymously named THE WILBUR. The boat looks like a wonderful way to enjoy your Alaskan backyard waterways. And, yikes, that stern wave and engine wake--that's a powerful boat. Chris and I keep talking about getting something bigger. I just called her over to the computer display so she could see what "bigger" could mean. Keep us posted, both on the SQUALL hull dry-out and this new downeast cruiser.

JimH -

Thanks. Such a change!

Bigger is better, but the costs pile up logarithmically! The Caterpillar 3208 TA puts out 375-hp.

A few more pictures for you.

Full galley is nice, includes salt-water sprayer to conserve potable water.

Tamira & you got it right. We went from M/V 36' to 32' to 32' s/V and now small trailerable and the Admiral loves it and we do like the logarithmic-ally lower cost a lot better.
Great pictures.
