What size cooler was used with a 1981 Montauk 17?

In 1981 the Boston Whaler "Boat Prices and Specifications" literature shows several SEATING options for a MONTAUK 17, including:
  • an 86-quart cooler seat with cushions and cleats at pilot position, and
  • an 86-quart forward of console.

The Igloo Marine 86-quart cooler has been replaced by the Igloo Marine 94 quart cooler. The difference in dimension is the top lid is taller. [The 94-quart cooler] fits in the original cooler cleats.

If a MONTAUK 17 has the rod back cushions, it is highly recommended to install the 94-quart cooler with the lid hinges facing forward. This allows the lid to be opened easily.

I always used a 72-quart model; it was lower and people sitting there did not obstruct my view.
On my 24th Whaler. Currently in the stable: 86 18' Outrage, 81 13' Sport(original owner), 87 11' Sport, 69 Squall(for sale cheap).
