Source for Replacement Railings
Source for Replacement Railings
What is a recommended source for a railing for a 1983 SUPER SPORT 15?
Re: Source for replacement Railings
Check with CMI, the [OEM] of rail components for many models of Boston Whalers.
They are listed on the OEM vendor page:

Re: Source for replacement Railings
I bought bow rails from Specialty Marine [for an unspecified boat]. The rails were very good quality.
Re: Source for Replacement Railings
Shhhh....don't let Phil hear you say that something from Specialty was good quality ;)
On my 24th Whaler. Currently in the stable: 86 18' Outrage, 81 13' Sport(original owner), 87 11' Sport, 69 Squall(for sale cheap).
Re: Source for Replacement Railings
I have not heard back [from CMI] as of yet.
I have looked everywhere [for replacement railings].
Specialty Marine seems to have the best price for [replacement railings for a 1983 SUPER SPORT 15].
I have spoken with a local place (in Toronto), and they would have to manufacture a railing. It ends up being much more expensive even with [factoring in the favorable rate for currency] exchange [of US to Canadian money].
ASIDE: Stay Safe everyone. We up north of the border are in the same situation as everyone in the USA. Our boat ramps are not open either.

Re: Source for Replacement Railings
What's wrong with Specialty Marine rails?
I have used [rails from Specialty Marine] for my Sport 15 boat, and it's been ten years in salt water and no problems. I have been very satisfied.

Re: Source for Replacement Railings
RD--Are the original rails damaged?
Or, are you going for a different style?
If the rails are damaged, they should be easy and cheap to repair.

In many states all workplaces are shut down due to government orders unless critical for health and welfare, so I imagine that stainless steel boat railing manufacturing is probably not going to be deemed critical and allowed to be open for business. CMI may be closed at this time. Even if they are open, you just emailed them on a Friday and posted that you didn't hear anything on Monday. An expectation of immediate reply to an email may not be allowing enough time considering the circumstances of the business probably being shut down.
Re: Source for Replacement Railings
Not every business is responsive to electronic communication, aka email.
When Fred Caldwell worked there, email was highly frowned upon.
Call CMI directly.

Re: Source for Replacement Railings
RDL--thanks for letting us know the reason you want to find a vendor that sells replacement railings.
Thanks for letting us know that in the future you may buy replacement railings from a particular vendor.
It would be very useful to have information from you AFTER you buy replacement railing from a particular vendor and AFTER you install replacement railings from a particular vendor. You could post a new article in REPAIRS and MODIFICATIONS to inform readers about your restoration and how it worked out.
I have found that posting notices of things you plan to do in the future often never results in any information about anything actually done. I have done this, myself. I mention that in the future I plan to do some project with my boat, and then I read that article five years later and laugh because I never got around to actually accomplishing the thing I said I was planning to do.
To write about projects you have already done and successfully completed is more interesting than to write about projects you think you might do in the future.
