1975 Montauk 17
1991 90hp Yamaha
Original gel coat
Never bottom painted
Never seen saltwater
Custom cover
Original tan bimini suntop/flytop (1 broken pole). Don't know if I'm using the correct terms but it goes all the way from overhead to the bow and has plastic windows.
Original casting platform (uninstalled)
Refinished wood
Replaced steering
Rebuilt tilt/trim
New seat cushion in about 2010 (I have original in fair condition)
Little Dude trailer (rusty but strong) has short tilt tongue to fit in garage, and center rollers. Trailers' lights, wires, tires, jack and bearings replaced in 2007.
27 gallon tank 1991
Compass 1991
Fish finder 1990s
VHF radio, whip and loran from 1975 in the basement somewhere. I didn't try the VHF.
Anchor
Skies
After market cooler seat. It did not come with a cooler seat due to the casting platform.
Everything else goes with it.
The work was professionally done in the 1990s.

It is in Washington Michigan about 30 miles north of Detroit.

I haven't used it much either, it hasn't been used for the past 10 years.

Are you considering buying this boat or selling this boat?

For a quick sale, your asking price should be $10,000. If you are not in a rush, wait for Spring, have the boat available for a sea trial, and start with a much higher price. If the engine runs well and the boat shows well, it could sell for more.

To facilitate a sale, set an asking price and re-post as a notice of for-sale. Your “appraisal” request seems to be more like a for-sale notice without an asking price, which would not comply with the rules for this forum.

Thanks jimh. You are right. I am glad it is so high. I may wait for better weather then. If I can get away with it.

The boat looks quite nice, but an older two-stroke-power-cycle engine with multiple carburetors that has not been used for ten years is really an unknown quantity. At best, it runs like a 33-year-old two-stroke that smokes a little and burns more fuel than a modern engine. At worst it won’t run at all and will need work—possibly quite a bit of work.

Putting a new modern 90-HP engine on a 49-year-old boat will significantly increase a new owner’s investment.

The rust on the trailer is another element that is a detraction.

A MONTAUK 17 in good shape is always an easy boat to sell, but it would be much more attractive if the engine condition was better known and the boat could be taken for a test drive.

My advice: get the engine running like new, paint the trailer and get rid of anything with rust, get new tires, and service the bearings and running lights so the buyer can tow it away. That would add many thousands to the selling price for a bit of work and perhaps not too much more cash invested.

I do not have the wherewithal to do that by myself. Believe it or not, I have never even owned a vehicle capable of towing it, always had to borrow. Maybe I should try to find a place willing to come get it, fix it up and sell it for me.

Thank you so much for your time. You are too good to us. I would like to say that continuousWave WHALER is a gem and I hope it lasts forever.
