APPRAISAL: 2010 170 MONTAUK

Postby rmaxwel » Tue Mar 26, 2024 8:55 pm

What is a fair price in Texas to buy a mostly freshwater-use 2010 170 MONTAUK, engine, and trailer.

[The unidentified brand and horsepower] engine is said to have 150-hours [runtime].

The boat condition in my view is 9 out of a possible 10. There are bow rails, two 6-gallon fuel tanks, and an older electronics.

ASIDE: a bank set the collateral value at $16,800.

The bank assessment is well below fair market value. Based only on your assessment of the condition as practically like new and practically no engine run time, this freshwater 2010 170 MONTAUK could fetch as much as $35,000 if the seller is able to wait for an offer that high. At the bank’s valuation the boat will sell in five minutes.

Without any information on the engine, my estimate assumes a Mercury 90-HP FOURSTROKE engine in like-new condition with no rust, no problems, and a record of excellent maintenance by factory trained dealer technicians.

For an engine in lesser condition or lesser power, deduct accordingly, perhaps as much as $5,000.

The engine on the boat under discussion is a Mercury 90-HP four-stroke-power-cycle engine.

Update: Asking price is $27,000. Give your thoughts on the asking price.

After inspection. The trailer needs new tires. The compression test cold 160,160,160, 155-PSI is all within 5=PSI of each cylinder. It has not been serviced since 2019. Trailer lights need replacement. Compass is cracked and not functioning. Hull has waterline stain from sitting in the lake and is barely visible. Some oxidation of the hull. Overall down grade the appearance to an 7.5 - 8. Basically a 14 year old boat in good shape. No canvas and the flip flop seat cushion is a bit faded. The boat has been sitting uncovered for a while.

If the boat is still available after one week, then the asking price was not a huge bargain, as else it otherwise would have sold in a few hours.
