I have read several chains about folks looking for the Awlgrip color that is closest to Desert Sand. On the new Awlgrip color card, they have a color called Sand White. This looks pretty darn close to Desert Sand. Has anyone else run across this?
See the color chip at:

Desert Sand Match in AWLGRIP
Re: Desert Sand Match in AWLGRIP
You cannot match colors by using a computer monitor. There is no standard for colorimetry on computer monitors. You have to have the actual color chip, the actual boat you want to match, and good sunlight illumination.

FINISHMASTERS AUTOMOTIVE AND PAINT SUPPLY can match Whaler Desert Sand in AwlGrip. They are an AwlGrip dealer, and their prices are very competitive. About 3 or 4 years ago I gave them a sample of the color from a hole saw cutout from a console off a Desert Sand gelcoat Whaler. The match they came up with is an EXACT match. I have even used it to touch up small nicks in the gelcoat hull, and painted the interior of my 15 footer.
They are a national auto paint supplier, with dealers in most areas. Check out their website. Call the Largo Florida branch, ask for Phil, the color matcher. Ask for Whaler Desert Sand AwlGrip. He can make the color for you or send your local branch the formula. They keep that formula on permanent file.

Re: Desert Sand Match in AWLGRIP
Hi Rich,
Your post is actually what prompted me to post this. My understanding, from reading other posts on other boards from several years ago, is that Awlgrip created an actual color for their color chart to represent their version of the BW Desert Sand. Since these posts were from several years ago, I am hoping that color now exists on the card...I'm betting it does. I have an email into Awlgrip to see if this is the case. If it is, I will update the post. I was also hoping someone with this info already confirmed would post. We'll see.
If no new info presents itself...Finishmasters it is!!! :-)
Thanks for jumping in!

Moon Dust is very close, a bit on the light side. You can add a little brown and a little blue tint to come as close as you are ever going to get-

Any pics of the desert tan next to a white Whaler?
Re: Desert Sand Match in AWLGRIP
Desert Tan is supposedly too dark based on other articles I have read. Again, all of these posts are several years old. Hopefully I can get Awlgrip to respond.
