22 Outrage Re-power

Postby Tbone » Fri Jul 07, 2017 3:30 pm

We just re-powered our Outrage 22 with Whaler outrive. It had a Johnson 175 and we put on a Yamaha F250. I have noticed that the boat leans to starboard significantly when under water at speed. It sits in the water fine and at slow speed but once you hit about 20 knots, it seems unbalanced.

I heard that this could be due to "prop roll" because the boat now has significantly more power. Seems a bit strange that it does this as it should be able to handle this size engine (it is a 2007). Any thoughts? The only weight on the boat is the battery on the starboard side.

Appreciate the help.

Check the trim tab anode just above the prop.

If you are standing behind the engine looking straight down at the prop, the tab should be pointed at the 5:30 position.

If the boat is c.2007 it probably is not a classic 22-foot hull.

I never heard of "prop roll."

If the boat has a right-hand propeller, propeller torque would tend to make the boat lean to port.

Classic Boston Whaler V-hulls tend to lean to windward. A Whaler Drive usually reduces that tendency somewhat.

Read the owner's manual for more advice.
