I'm thinking of removing the bow rail on my 2007 Dauntless 220. [Do you have] any thoughts and advice?
What is to be done with mounting holes?
[Are there any images of a] Dauntless with rail removed?
Any clever solutions like added hand rails for bow passengers? Cup holders?
Thanks

Re: 2007 DAUNTLESS 220 Bow Rail Removal
My general thoughts and advice about making any modification to a Boston Whaler boat: give it careful thought, as not every modification is a real enhancement, and some end up looking like hacks.
If you completely remove the railings there will be many fastener holes left to be filled, faired, top-coated with matching gel coat, and blended into the deck--and this takes an artisan's touch to do properly. Are you a gel coat artisan?

Thanks guys. Definitely not an "artisan", though one can be hired if needed.
I've researched photos of the boat without the bow rail which was apparently a factory "delete option", so it's not a crazy modification and looks much more modern.
I will not be installing a trolling motor but I see where you were going with that, good thought.

I've seen one locally that had round pieces of stainless and holes for the screws for each of the rail attachment locations.

That's a great idea!

Buff out the area so it blends. Reinsert the screws into the holes with a dab of marine sealant under the head.
I would save the rail for at least a year to ensure you really like it off. It is a hard thing to sell and even harder to buy.

Easy to do with your boat. Take a picture of your boat and use a photo editing software to remove the railing. Ask one of the kids --I laugh aloud-- they'll do it in a flash.

You could have lower 3"-4" high grab-rails made with the same stanchion mount locations by a local fabricator either out of stainless or maybe wood.
Personally I think your model looks good with the railing and its added use, security, and safety is nice to have.
Show us the pictures after you made the modification(s)
