Walkaround 21 Seats

Hello, I am now [two] months into ownership of a 1991 Walkaround 21. I am re-fitting many items, in anticipation of the coming spring boating season. One of these items is the helm and passenger seats.

The boat came to me outfitted with a pair of Tempress-brand folding, white, vinyl seats fitted on aluminum bases (consisting of 2 inch inclines), with forward and back adjustment, no swivel and no adjustment for height. The aluminum bases are in poor condition and need replacement. The seats are serviceable, and could be re-fitted on new pedestals and bases, if I so desired.

I would like to solicit suggestions from this group for:

• Model of seats
• Virtues of swivel
• Utility of height adjustment

Do you primarily sit while driving? I primarily stand and hence my preference would be for a leaning post on driver's side and a pedestal on the passenger's. Make the leaning post wide enough that two can fit snuggly.

That is an interesting idea; I never considered a leaning post but it makes a lot of sense. I will look into this further. Thank you.

A 21 WA isn't a good boat for a leaning post.it would block access to the cabin.

No it wouldn't if you had it made or found a small one. Todd actually makes one that fits on a pedestal base.

I find having swivel seats at the helm station to be useful. When not underway, I often rotate the pilot seat to face aft.

I don't have any height adjustment on my seats. The seats mount to a 3-inch diameter post of fixed height. When underway in rough seas, there can be considerable downward force exerted on the mounting post as a boat rapidly decelerates vertically when slamming down off a wave crest. For this reason, any vertical adjustment in seat height would have to be very robust and able to tolerate high peak loading.
