[This thread may be seeking advice about repairs to the removable deck molded section that covers the fuel tank cavity on a REVENGE boat of unknown length. Please include the LENGTH of any boat for which you seek advice. Please clearly explain what you are asking about and what is to be seen in the illustrations--Moderator]

Q1: after removing all loose wood, how far down does one go?

I have spots that go to the glass skin.

Some spots [show] the polyester resin that was used.

Below in Figure 2 there appears to be 1/4-fiberglassed-plywood ring around the inspection covers, and it is not even a perfect circle.

Q2: should those be sanded and ground down?

If your thread is seeking information about making a repair of the plywood backing that reinforces the laminated removable deck section that covers the fuel tank cavity on many c.1984 Boston Whaler boats, see these two articles in the REFERENCE section on precisely that topic:

Under-deck Repairs On a 1985 OUTRAGE 22
by Jeff Rohlfing
In two parts:

Part One: https://continuouswave.com/whaler/refer ... store.html
Part Two: https://continuouswave.com/whaler/refer ... tore2.html

That same topic is also found in a similar but shorter third article at:
