Best Saltwater Trailer Lamps

The trailer lamps on my trailer for [an unidentified model year] [unidentified model] 13 have been replaced once every three months. I have tried numerous different brands.

I am in Florida. The boat is used exclusively in saltwater. I rinse the entire trailer extremely well after each use.

I have rewired the trailer with Marine grade wire and run a dedicated ground. The lamps just don’t seem to hold up.

I have had excellent longevity with Walmart's sealed LED trailer lamp sets. I add some sealant where the conductors exit the lamps as a little added insurance against water intrusion. I believe the most important step when installing the lamps is the connection to the trailer wiring harness. I recommend a high quality heat seal connector accompanied with heat sealed tubing around the connector.

For both my 13-foot and 16-foot Boston Whaler boats I used OPTRONICS Waterproof LED trailer lamp kits (from easternmarine.com, but widely available). The company cheerfully replaced one set which had premature failure of some of the LEDs. Aside from that, I enjoyed complete reliability over many (10+) years of saltwater use. It is important to use waterproof adhesive heat shrink for connections, and I recommend a dedicated ground wire.

I have my trailer lamps mounted to 2x4 lumber, which I hang off the boat when needed.

ASIDE
I do this not because of corrosion but because mice kept eating the trailer wiring.

The only hassle occurs when mounting the lamp board to the trailer if the trailer needs to be moved without the boat.

Be sure to buy trailer lamps that are specifically designated as submersible.

I use the DRY LAUNCH brand lamps. I am not sure they are still being made. The ones on my 1992 trailer are at least 20-years-old. The 1992 trailer has been used in saltwater, but not in the last 15 years.
