Removing Bimini Top Mounts

Postby Pescatore » Mon Aug 22, 2016 8:42 pm

I have a 1991 15 GLS. I want to remove the Bimini top mounts because they are loose, which will enable water to enter the gunwales. I tried loosening the screws, but the mount still won't pull out.

Perhaps the mounting base for the frame for the canvas top on your c.1993 Boston Whaler 15 GLS was attached with adhesive and screw fasteners. Do you see any indication around the perimeter of the mounting base for the frame that an adhesive or sealant has been used?

If the canvas top was installed at the factory as a factory option on the boat at the time of initial fabrication, you might be able to get advice and information on how the mounting base for the frame rail was attached to the hull by contacting Boston Whaler customer service.

If the canvas was installed after initial manufacture of the boat at a dealer or by a previous owner, there is no telling how it was fastened. But use of an adhesive would be quite reasonable, in my experience, to help fasten the mounting base to the gunwale.
