Hi. I have a 1981 MONTAUK 17. While mounting the classic [white all-round light pole lamp], I attached the snap-plug male leads to the female receptacle in the harness; the male pin snapped off in the female connector.
I was able to pull out the broken pin with needle nose pliers, but now I have a lead with a pin snapped-off
I am sure I can replace [some part referred to as "it] with a (4-gauge) heat shrink snap-plug, but how do i get the jacket off the lead on the lamp pole without cutting the wire?
Cutting the cable would shorten its length. A new [white all-round pole lamp] is expensive, and I'd like to repair mine first.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Navigation Lamp Connector Repair
Re: Navigation Lamp Connector Repair
First, the MONTAUK 17 does not have a "sternlight". It generally has a white all-round light. Navigation lights are what will be seen by other boats, and the light comes from a lamp. On a MONTAUK 17 the white all-round light is usually provided by a pole-mounted lamp.
Also, I do not know what you mean by an electrical connector that is a "snap-plug" or a replacement that would be "a (4-gauge) heat shrink snap plug." These terms are unknown to me.
Unless the connector body is a molded-on body and the contacts and connector body are in a one-piece unrepairable assembly, there should be some means to remove the back shell of the connector body and access the internal wiring of the connector.
To facilitate a better discussion, please provide a close-up image of the device you refer to as a "snap-plug male" electrical connector and the proposed replacement device you refer to as a "(4-gauge) heat shrink snap plug."
Also, if the electrical connectors are original c.1981 connectors, these 38-year-old connectors may be due for complete replacement.
The cable from the pole lamp can also be replaced and made longer.

Perko still makes the replacement double contact bayonet socket and wiring (60"long) - Perko part number 24-DP2. About $10.
