Installed Wash Down Pump on 190 Outrage

I've been slowly modifying my 2013 190 Outrage with equipment that was not available from Boston Whaler at the time of my purchase. My first modification was to add a house battery and a Blue Sea add a battery kit. Next, after many hours of scrubbing dried up fish blood, I tackled a wash down pump. I was surprised that a wash down pump is not available even as an option. There is a spot on the stern that is perfect for one. I got a kit from [West Marine] and connected the pump to the ACC switch on the panel.

The installation of the wash down pump on your 190 OUTRAGE looks very well done. From where does the pump get its supply of water?

Is the pump a JABASCO PAR-MAX 3.0 model?

Thanks Jim, you are correct, it is the JABASCO PAR-MAX 3.0.

I connected to the live-well pump's secondary connection (not sure if it has a proper name) so that I could use the existing thru hull and seacock. I can take a picture and post it for reference.

Nice job. I've considered a similar arrangement on my 190 Montauk. I was thinking of using the live well pump for a wash down system instead of a dedicated pump. That would keep the cost down to a "Y" valve and a few fittings and some tubing. I doubt the live well pump has the capacity to do much of a job of washing down the deck but could be adequate for cleaning off the anchor before stowing it in the anchor compartment.

Do you have an opinion on that approach?

Thank you. I did look into that option but ultimately decided that a separate system with a more powerful pump would be what I would end up doing, so I went that route. One observation that made me scrub the idea of using the live well was the relatively low pressure I noticed coming out of the live well outlet, I figured if I ever needed to use both at the same time the pressure would not be adequate on either one.

What was the WEST MARINE product code for the particular wash down pump kit you used?

Did the kit include that nice fitting for attaching the curled hose?

The kit was West Marine part number 10286318, MFG Part # 32901-0092. It came with all of the fittings, filter and hose.

The quick connect did not come with the kit, I could not find a connector that I was happy with and I didn't want the threaded connector with the cap on a chain type, or the faucet looking type either. I found the JABSCO Stainless-Steel Washdown Quick Connect, West Marine Model # 6620512 MFG Part # 31911-0000 and I liked it.

Well, after taking the boat out last weekend and using the wash down pump for the first time, I have to say I was a little disappointed with the pressure coming out of the nozzle. I didn't have the right components to troubleshoot the problem, but I suspect the following in order: 1) The Quick Connect fitting is not opening enough with the given pressure output of the pump 2) The pistol grip nozzle provided in the kit sucks 3) The pump is not getting 12V 4) The thruhull is not big enough to allow sufficient water pressure to build.

Next time I'm out I will bring a coupler to connect the hose directly to the pump and also bring another nozzle, and obviously before I go out I will check the voltage at the pump. This should identify or eliminate #1, #2, and #3, but I don't know how I could check #4.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

an interesting observation, as I have a 2010 model....
the location you selected to mount the the quick connect hardware for the hose in the splashwell.. that part of the mold almost looks as if it were made for that application or a fuel fill. I dont think my boat has that, my fuel fill is on the port gunwale. I will have to llok this week when i go to marina.

Sadly no updates so far. I've had to deal with some medical problems so haven't had a chance to use the boat this summer. Hopefully I can get out this weekend and do some lobstering.

As far as the location for the quick connect, I believe that is where the oil fill was for the old 2-stroke motors. Your boat does have it as it has been a part of this mold since the Nantucket was introduced, its just easy to oversee since it has no purpose anymore.

yes yes that makes perfect sense, and upon looking at some recent pictures of my boat, I have noticed that it is there, just never really noticed it or even questioned as to what the hell it was until I seen the pics in this thread!
I am curious as to what your opinion will be after evaluation of problem. seems like maybe it needs a more powerful pump. i noticed the number you provided seems to be the lower of the current gpm pumps available for this purpose.

I also installed a wash down pump on my 190. As I do not have the bait well pump or the thru hull pick up I ran a hose through the left side rear scupper with an L attachment and the hose runs straight down the transom. My pressure is great and no holes in the hull. I placed the pump under the rear cover right in front of the engine. Works great!

Could you post some pictures of your setup? I am in the same situation you are with no bait well pump thru hull. I am contemplating running it through opening where the engine harness/cables/wires and what not run through the hull in the engine well...

Since you hooked up the supply to the wash down pump at the bait well secondary connection, perhaps your reduced pressure is because the wash down pump is attempting to pull water from both the thru-hull and air from the bait well side of the that pump.

Although not exactly the same setup as yours, mine is similar. To solve the 'dual intake' and lack of volume and pressure I had I put a check valve between the bait well pump and the T coming off the thru-hull fitting.

Haven't seen that connector before. A bit pricey, even with a commercial discount.
I recently added a second wash down hose connection because I was tired of hitting the factory's location with my toes.
Had I seen the connector you installed, and now recalling how many times I have nicked my fingers on that exposed screw for the chain cap, I would have gladly spent the money.

That pump and plumbing supply 2 sources- livewell under the leaning post and raw water wash down. There is a Y valve to select where you want water to go -if you want raw water wash down make sure you select and turn that Y valve to that set up so there is good pressure for the hose and good stream of water to use it . If set up properly and with good coil hose you won't have problems washing deck of your 190

I have the JABASCO PAR-MAX ULTRA fitted to our Outrage 210.

Due to its size it's fitted horizontally in one of the stern lockers - I didn't bother with a connection point in the deck and I simply have a piece of pipe with a quick connect on the end that I attach the coiled hose to.

Pressure is great!

UPDATE:

I'm finally able to go out on my boat again and I was able to make some progress on my wash down pump setup to make it into a dual purpose fresh/salt water wash down. Pressure is about the same coming from the bladder connected directly to the pump as it was from the thru-hull, so I can eliminate that as one of the causes.

The main components used were a 14 gallon Lalizas Rectangular Flexible Water Tank, Part number 31321, and a Y-Valve from The Bosworth Company # 94AB-3/4-CPH. These come with different size hose barbs, I chose the 3/4" since that was the existing size hose for my wash down pump. I did have to change one of the barbs to 5/8" since that is the size on the flexible tank.

Currently I am filling the bag using the vent plug, I only add about 5 gallons so its been ok. Eventually I want to connect a fill connection to the leaning post so I can connect a hose and fill the tank without having to go through the hatch.
