These are made by: BECKSON MARINE, INC They have been used on all of the Outrage/Revenge models that have a 3/4" plywood backed gas tank cover for access to tank fittings and for the direct reading fuel gauge. These are the "pry out" variety. Newer, "white" Whalers have similar access plates with "Tee" handles, and these are NOT made by Beckson. Many marine supply stores carry these Beckson plates, but I have not seen them in the Whaler desert beige color, so those may have been a special order by the Company. |

Larry, We talked about deck plates here: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000047.html My Outrage did not have Beckson pry-outs but rather PYHI pry-outs. What do you know about this? |

Tom - I'm almost sure my 1986 Outrage came new with Beckson Plates. But now I'm curious and will check again. I am thinking that BW must have had the color specially run for them. |

Tom and others - I re-checked the deck plates in my 1986 Outrage. All plates, in matching hull color, are by Beckson. I took delivery of this boat in late April, 1986, so by that time Whaler had switched to Beckson. The boat was manufactured in Rockland (Jack, take note!). |

Where can you get replacement O-rings for the deckplates? |

O.K. so we know that Whaler started using Beckson at least as early as '86 and PYHI at least as late as '83. This seems sensible because we know PYHI went Tango Uniform, so logically Beckson would be a good choice. Now here's my question: The PYHI and Beckson plates are different sizes. The inner hull of the Outrages (and others) had non-skid with circular areas devoid of non-skid where the deck plates went. Did Whaler actually change the mold to accomodate the change in deck plate size? Or is the mold the same and the holes were drilled after lay-up? By this I mean did they take a hole saw or router at the factory to make the hole for the deck plates, or did the mold itself have the hole and the necessary lip already in place for the particular deck plate? If the former, then a guy could retrofit a Beckson plate in place of a PYHI by enlarging the hole and lip within the non-skid free area. Chris J, you could get a replacement O-ring at a good hardware store or perhaps at a chandelry like West Marine. I don't think there's anything exotic about the O-rings used on boats. The two significant parameters are overall diameter and cross sectional diameter. The things are rubber and will stretch to some degree so it is the cross section size that is most important. Here's another possible O-ring source: www.mcmaster.com P.S. use some grease on them when you find them. |

TWC, for the most part the deck plate areas were molded into the sections, obtaining a truw flush mount. On occasion in the larger boats they were cut in depending on the model choice in other areas as the need arose for access for a specific application. The PYHI plates are sold by Bowmar, you can readily obtain the size you need but not the tan color. No need to cut anything unless say you want to go from a 6 to an 8 or an 8 to a 10. |

I have a '96 military Guardian. The pry-out plates were Beckson I believe, but the T-handled latching plates are Viking. The anti-skid is a 'pimple' pattern, almost exactly matching the Beckson. The Bomar hatches are very nice, but w/a diamond pattern. I don't remember the contact info for Viking, I was actually reffered to them by the staff @ Bomar. |

My 84 has PYHI deckplates and I gave up trying to find o-rings for them two years ago. Instead took the advice I got on one of many phone calls ........... silicone. If anyone knows where to get them, I'd love to know. |
