I got a beckson deck plate catalog in the mail and they have two colors that are stock. Beige and Kakhi. Does anyone know whic color was used on the desert tan hulls? I know they were the original supplier to whaler but am not sure what color I need. Thanks for your help.

if you call bonston whaler and give them the year made they will send the correct gel coat .good luck......matt

I believe that the desert tan has been discontinued.

I'm not sure about the whalers you guys own, but the five that I've owned all had pry outs made by PYHI. The one over the fuel tank of my Outrage was cracked and I tried for years to find a replacement. Beckson is BY FAR the biggest producer of deck plates and I could never find any PYHI brand parts that worked. As far as I can tell, PYHI no longer exists. What was most annoying to me was that the Beckson products were not sized at all like the PYHI products, thus I was never able to simply retro fit a new Beckson deckplate into the hull.
As to color, I remember the PYHI's in my boats were close, but not exactly the same as the Whaler gelcoat. They may once have been or not, but it's like a lot of the Whaler accessories, they were not always a perfect color match. Furthermore, as with gelcoat repairs, the color changes with age and sunlight. I have executed dozens of gelcoat repairs on my boats using gelcoat patchkits colored specifically to certain model years of whalers and they were never exact. In fact what might work on one part of the boat didn't quite work on another. The best thing to do was simply to mix your own from slightly different shades. You will never find ONE dessert tan.

Truckabout purports to be a dealer of close out and discontinued products. I didn't see anything specifically that said dessert tan but they do have some PYHI products...might be worth a try...
