Wood locations - 1999 22 ft. Outrage

Postby Ohana Bob » Tue Feb 23, 2016 10:00 am

I am looking at the possibility of purchasing a 1999 Outrage. I was wondering if Whaler was still using wood in the transom and deck of their 1999 Outrages. Appreciate any information you might be able to provide as I have never owned a whaler other than a very early 13 footer some 40 years ago. Thank you.

Boston Whaler still used marine plywood

Since you are not clear on the exact model, I had to take a guess. They don't offer as many wood diagrams as they used to.

Here is the wood/backing material diagram for the 210 Outrage, it is dated 2001. Note item KK is 1/2" plywood. The other backing materials are phenolic.

I think the drawing listed might be a 2002 210 Outrage, which has some differences.

Don't know what year, but this one is listed as a 22 Outrage [Looks like a 220 OUTRAGE and the drawing is dated 2009--jimh]

And out of curiosity, I do not see a 1999 22 Outrage in the 1999 catalog.

I also don't see an Outrage model listed in the 1999 catalogue with the 22-foot designator. There is a 21 and a 23 model but no 22. There is also no 22 model in 1998 or in 2000 catalogues.

It would not be a surprise to find plywood in a Boston Whaler boat of that epoch. Plywood is a good reinforcement material for a laminated fiberglass boat. It is light and strong.
