Need an Assistant in Choosing a MONTAUK
I'm shopping for my first MONTAUK. I would like to find someone in northern California who has a lot of Boston Whaler experience and who would be willing to look over listings with me, and possibly inspect a boat in person for a fee before I buy.

You can get very good advice by using an artificial intelligence assistant such as GROK.COM to help you assess boats that are on the market from their published listings, as long as you give GROK useful criteria for evaluation.

The only things that have changed since I wrote that are the prices and the age of the used boats.
You can also post in the MARKETPLACE forum a notice of WANTED-TO-BUY and give more specific information about the boat and engine and other elements of your desired purchase, and a means of direct contact with you and your location. This might attract potential sellers to you.
The MONTAUK 17 remains an extremely popular model of Boston Whaler boat, and used boats in very good condition that have modern engines and are appropriately prices sell very rapidly. To become the new owner, you need to be among the first to actually see the boat in person, and bring cash or an easily negotiated check with you. Nice MONTAUK boats do not sit around for months waiting for a buyer, unless they are priced at the very top fringe of reasonable prices or are exotically restored and equipped with much added gear.

I am not terribly worried about overall condition, and well-used is fine.

Ask GROK.COM that question. You could also do your own research by, for example, just looking at many years of archived posts in MARKETPLACE in both the NEW and OLD Forums.
