Did Boston Whaler build a hull with 25-feet length and 9-feet 6-inch beam?

If so, what was its [model name]?

I thought all 25-foot hulls had an 8-foot beam.

I noticed in the reference table at link below that a 9-foot 6-inch beam hull was apparently available:

I'm interested because I may buy a 25-foot hull.

Mav—the boat you are referring to is the Whaler 25. It was offered from 1990-1993.

It is a really different hull than the Outrage 25 ot Revenge 25.

The catalog description read:

Whaler 25 Walkaround

Thank you Phil, I really appreciate the timely feedback. I'm waiting on the seller to measure the width and advise me so I can make a more informed decision. I had been looking at a 27, but decided the 25 might be better as I wanted to avoid having to get a towing permit for a 27 (10' beam). Someone told me a permit was required.

I should hear back from this seller tomorrow and looking forward to learning if it's the 8-foot beam hull. The 25 I'm considering has Whaler Drive. That intrigued me versus [buying] a 27.

The REFERENCE article you have already found and linked above gives the model name, dimensions, and production epoch of the very large WHALER 25 WALKAROUND WHALER DRIVE model. They are much different than an OUTRAGE 25 or a REVENGE 25.

Twin counter-rotating 250-HP engine are the appropriate power.

They are amazing boats, but not very suited to trailer boating. You will need a massive trailer, a massive hitch, and a massive truck to tow one. You can’t tow one with a 1988 Cadillac sedan.

I understand, thanks and I appreciate the feedback. This could be my twelfth Boston Whaler, and--next to the 20 Guardian--the biggest I've had the pleasure of piloting.

The Outrage 25 with Whaler Drive would be manageable with a dry weight of 3,750-lbs. With engines, fuel, and trailer, I'm thinking it will be in the 7,000 to 8,000-lbs range.

I have a suitable tow vehicle for that and then some, and I hope to learn details today on this boat. I may end up "settling" for a 22 Cuddy, which is in line with the 2-foot itis rule, hah, but will see. Thanks again for the information.

The classic 22-foot hull would literally fit inside the WHALER 25 hull.

The WHALER 25 WALKAROUND WHALER DRIVE is a great boat for cruising and sleeping aboard, but it will need a lot of fuel to move it long distances. Even with modern fuel-efficient engines, the fuel economy will be around 1.2-MPG at best, and that's why this model comes with a 250-gallon fuel tank.

Your profile indicates you are on Padre Island, TX. Not all states require a over-wide permit to tow 10-foot-wide loads. Before rejecting a wide boat I would double check with DMV.

Hi Butch, I would be pulling in several states: Texas to Ohio (Lake Erie) to Florida Keys.

I am not sure I want to pursue permits in several states everytime I travel. Your suggestion is helpful and I looked online, but just in Texas alone I was confused by what was acceptable and not. The key word is "may", see below.

In most states, the maximum width for a boat trailer on the road is 8.5 feet. Trailers exceeding this width may require special permits and follow specific travel restrictions.

It doesn't specifically indicate permits, but I believe if the trailer exceeds what is specified, then a permit may be required. That was my reasoning for a 25 vs a 27...I don't "have" to get a ten foot wide 27...an eight foot wide 25 is probably adequate. I was initially interested in a 27 as I found one nearby at a great price, but by running down the rabbit trail I learned a few things I had not considered.

I do appreciate the helpful feedback; I'll likely take the simpler path and pursue the 25 as it should more than meet my needs. Thanks again, Mav

In some jurisdictions there are also time-of-day and day-of-the-week restrictions on towing over-wide loads, and those will further encumber travel with a big trailer boat. For example, in Michigan you cannot tow oversized loads on the highway on three-day holiday weekends.

[About one year later] Nineteen years ago [in 2005] I bought a [25] Walkaround. I love the boat. I have manuals and a catalog if you need any of information.

[Moderator's note: to indicate dimension units use the words "feet" and "inches." DO NOT use punctuation marks, and especially when you use the wrong punctuation mark. The boat under discussion is 25-feet long, not a 25-inches long.]
