Assess 1990 OUTRAGE 17

Postby augert » Thu Sep 26, 2024 2:34 pm

I may by a 1990 OUTRAGE 17 with a 2020 Evinrude 90-HP legacy (“G1”) engine with 19-hours run time. I am brand new to boating but will be using it in Long Island Soundout of Niantic, Connecticut with my wife and two small boys.

Q1: when making a visual inspection of this boat, what should I be concerned about?

Q2: what is the value of this boat?

When inspecting the 1990 OUTRAGE 17, check for hull integrity, signs of water damage, and the condition of the engine and electronics. Make sure all safety equipment is included and functioning. Research similar listings for pricing, but a newer engine with low hours should add value.

I have owned two of this model for over 10 years and am intimately knowledgeable on it.

The 1990 production year model was different than the 1991-1995 versions.

The 1990 has an above deck tank underneath the wide spashwell cap. The rigging tunnel is on the centerline.
It tends to be a bit stern heavy.

Check the drain tubes, fuel hoses, cushions.

The E-TEC is a great choice given its low weight and admirable low end torque.

The price is fair but a bit higher given the age of the trailer and the fuel tank has not been replaced.

The [1990] fuel tank is likely near end of life based on age.

I have a 1990 Boston Whaler. The aluminum below-deck fuel tank is in excellent condition.
