Source for New Side Mount Remote Control 1996 Mercury 60-HP

Postby pistolpete » Fri Oct 25, 2024 5:25 pm

Q1: where can I buy a good side mount remote control for a 1996 Mercury 60-HP engine with eight pins?

BACKSTORY: I have a remote control for my 1996 Mercury 60-HP engine that is a top mount, I want to change to a side mount. I can only find used side mount controls on eBay or cheap imports from China.

Have you contacted a Mercury dealer?

Sim Mercury is a good start. Give them a call.

The Mercury Marine division of Brunswick also sells outboard engine accessories under the "Quicksilver" branding.

Typically the QUICKSILVER branding was used by retail sources that were NOT authorized Mercury outboard engine dealers. Having the second brand was a way to allow non-authorized dealers to sell the same products as authorized dealers but under a different brand. My inference is that this was probably a way to get around any sort of exclusivity provision in the contract between the authorized Mercury dealers and Brunswick. It just created a second sales channel for what are probably the exact same products.

You may find the controls you are seeking if you search for them under the QUICKSILVER branding.
