I have 1968 13-foot Boston Whaler boat [with stencil number] 24230.

Q1: What were the specifications for:
--maximum persons
--maximum gross load
--persons, motor, and equipment weight
--maximum horsepower

Q2: What is the model number?

I need this in order to have a capacity plate made.

Q3: what decals should be installed?

Q4: has any 13-footer Boston Whaler ever had [top-mounting remote throttle and shift] controls installed?

BACKSTORY: I am in the middle of giving my first boat a face lift. I have owned this boat since 1976. I bought it after it was in a fire and the floor and the interior was burnt beyond repairing the boat back to original condition. It has served me well and has taken second and third seat to my other boats over the years. The time to make it a priority is now. No one else in my family will. Need help. Thank you.

Capacity Plate: The requirement that a boat must have a capacity plate was introduced in c.1972 as a result of federal legislation and regulations. A boat made in c.1968 would not have the typical specification plate that is now required by federal law.

Model Number: Boston Whaler did not use model numbers to identify models. Boston Whaler used model names with length designators in two digits. See the article linked above in REFERENCE for a list of model names. Since your boat was damaged and rebuilt, it no longer is a particular model of Boston Whaler 13-foot boat. It is just a customized 13-foot boat that began as a Boston Whaler.

Use of Remote controls: Many 13-foot Boston Whaler boats have been fitted with remote shift and throttle controls for their engine. How frequently a top-mounting (often referred to as a binnacle mount) remote shift and throttle control was used is unknown to me, but certainly that type must have been used at least once before. Side-mounting remote engine shift and throttle controls are more often used on small open skiff boats due to the lack of a center console on which top-mounting controls could be installed.

The term "binnacle" refers to a housing or structure in a ship that contains the ship's compass.
