1994 OUTRAGE 21 Wood Locating Diagram; T-Top

Postby jmike1955 » Tue Mar 08, 2016 7:50 pm

I have a 1994 Outrage 21, and I am interested in self-installing a T-Top. I want to make sure I don't drill into anything under the deck, but I have not been able to find a [wood-locating] diagram for this boat on-line. Where can I find [on-line a wood locating diagram for a 1994 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 21]?

Give me any thoughts on installing a T-Top.

Since Boston Whaler has removed the parts and wood backing diagrams from the website for the earlier years, I would contact Boston Whaler Customer Service and ask them for the wood backing diagrams for your year and model.

If the rep tries to beg off, talk to Chuck Bennett.

If in 1994 Boston Whaler offered the option of a T-Top for the OUTRAGE 21, there should be hull reinforcements designed to handle the stress of the attachment points. If there were no such option and there are no such reinforced attachment points, you will have to improvise. The stress imposed on the hull from the wind loading of a T-Top can be quite high, so you need to plan for very strong points of attachment of the frame of the T-Top to the hull and to craft some way to spread the load.

Also, it is common for there to be some flexing in the hull. If the T-Top is bolted to the hull at points which will tend to flex, the frame of the T-Top should be designed to flex the same amount. If there is a bolted attachment of two structures, and only one has some elasticity or flex, either the stiffer structure will tend to crack or the fasteners will tend to work and loosen when the more elastic structure begins to flex.
