2015 METS DAME Awards in Electronics

The Marine Equipment Trade Show ( or METS) is held annually in Europe and is said to be the world's largest marine trade show--although perhaps the Miami International Boat Show might argue about that. The 2015 METS will be held in Amsterdam on November 17, 18, and 19. During the show various Design Awards are given to participating vendors for their new products. Some of these products are clearly more appropriate for the mega-yacht than the small boat, but the list is an interesting survey of the newest gizmos in marine electronics. Some of them are certainly useful on a small boat.

The nominees for the 2015 Design Award at the Marine Equipment Trade Shoe (DAME) in the category "Marine electronics & marine related software" are:

Product: Anemobox

The METS show has just concluded. The DAME Award winners in marine electronics and marine related software:

NAVICO for their HALO Pulse Compression RADAR. The jury said:

Scan for weather or the shoreline at as much as 72nm range while monitoring for obstructions as close as 100m, all by using one radar. That is the clever proposition of the Simrad HALO Pulse Compression Radar that utilises the next generation of the company’s solid-state pulse-compression technology. The Jury appreciated both the complex design effort represented by this dual-range breakthrough model and also the user interface of the multifunction display with its side-by-side radar images.

NAVIONICS for their Dock-to-dock Autorouting. The jury noted:

The Jury really liked the capabilities of this software. It can automatically plot a route to manage complex problems such as charted hazards, narrow channels and even speed limits. This has obvious appeal for less experienced mariners but equal safety value for anyone using smaller chart plotter screens where the detail can easily be lost in the heat of the moment.

FLIR for their AX8 Marine Thermal Monitoring System. The jury commented:

FLIR has brought its thermal imaging expertise to the engine room and machinery spaces in a compact package. Combining thermal image and visible camera feeds, the AX8 visually highlights changes in temperature caused by hot spots and flooding and audibly alerts to them via programmable alarms. It also features FLIR’s MSX technology to improve image interpretation.
