For anyone who has installed a jack plate on a Montauk 170: what are your observations of the advantages or the disadvantages of installing the jack plate?
I plan to install a 6-inch RiteHite manual jack plate on a 2008 Montauk 170 with a 2008 Mercury 90 FOURSTROKE using a Mercury HIGHFIVE 20-pitch propeller.
BACKSTORY: I have had [manual jack plates] on bass boats before. I realize that a jack plate may add a little speed and possibly help make the boat transition to plane better. The boats I've had [with a jack plate] had the jack plate installed when purchased, so I've never seen the before-and-after effect of a jack plate installed.
