The following is excerpted from the news clips I get at work. Two of the crew died:The crew had started the patrol at 7:45 p.m. Friday and had come around a buoy in Lake Ontario and were headed back toward the mouth of the Niagara River when a 4-foot wave swamped the boat and ejected all four of the men into the water about 8 p.m. A search was launched about 9 p.m., after the crew had failed to respond to radio calls, and all four were pulled from the water about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
The four men were wearing dry suits. Under normal conditions the 4-foot wave would not have been a problem for the 22-foot boat, which has a rigid hull and a inflatable pontoon around it for buoyancy and is powered by a outboard motor.

Is there a problem using fiberglass hulls in extremely cold water, where chunks of floating and submerged ice can be encountered?
