I just rcvd a brochure from the Danbury Mint on the die-cast model they will be offering this June. (I read about it in this forum). Its a 1961 Whaler Nauset with trailer, going for $124.00 + $8.00 in shipping. The pictures of the model are beautiful however I'd like to ask a few questions about the real Nauset so as to compare with this model. Did the original Nauset have Bow rails which this model lacks. Also the model does not reflect a black rubrail around the boat. What I can gather from the picture is that their is no rubrail as the gunnels are painted old whaler blue. And last but not least did this boat have a Destroyer type SS steering wheel?????????? I intend to write to Danbury to mention these minor details and the fact that an Evinrude or Johnson engine would be more in line with what was used in that era. Also the fact that bottom paint (red) on this model trailerable boat kind of detracts from it's overall looks. I plan to include in my letter this Forum so Danbury can take a peep and see what Whaler fanatics really want. I'm quite sure that a large amount of buyers for this model will come from this forum. Thks, Fred

DGPThks, almost all my answers were their, except for the SS steering wheel. Anyway I did write to Danbury about the engine and bottom paint, if enough people argue against the paint and the engine make we may be able to get the model the way we want it to be. Let the people speak...... Thks again, Fred. |

Fred, I ordered 2 models. The steering wheels were plastic and white. Regards-Jack Graner. P.S. I agree, white rubrails, no bottom paint, OMC outboard, and the bow rail was an option, I wish they included it on the model. |
