Author Topic:   Idea for a new pole!

Are we not doing poles anymore??? How about a new topic. Suggestion: Owners Experience, i.e., military, law enforcement, sailing, etc. We know the site has a tremendous amount of talent and experience. Let's see where all of lifes experiences have influenced these opinions. Just a thought.

Since, no one responded, I guess that answers that.

Jim - your title is deceiving. I've been trying to figure why someone would want to put a "pole" on a Whaler! Obviously, you mean "poll".

I think one a month would be a good idea, and would have enough time for adequate responses. I found them very informative.

Also (and I'm not trying to pile on here, but...) how would your proposed poll differ from the 115 (and counting) post thread about the age and experience of posters here?

In other words, I didn't respond because I wasn't sure what you meant. Are you asking about our professions? Our boating experience?

Here's how I would have answered the question I think you were posing: I'm 37 and have been boating/sailing/water skiing/fishing in small craft all my life. I have used the following boats regularly at various times in my life - canoe, 8' dinghy (row, 3hp motor), rowboat (15' wooden boat with outboard), Sunfish, Chesapeake 20, Hampton, Force 5, 24' MacGregor, 16' Hobiecat, 1959 Century El Ranchero, 1966 Century ski boat, Thundercraft I/O ski boat, 44' deadrise Bay-built boat, BW Montauk, several kayaks and a dinghy I built myself. I have spent many many hours messing about in boats, and enjoy doing so at every opportunity. I know nothing about big or "fancy" boats, though.

I am an attorney in Eastern North Carolina.

Now frankly this type of post is way off topic, think about it for a minute and I believe you'll agree. Maybe interesting to some but still not pertinent to this forum or for that matter site.

Whether your a Doctor, lawyer or an Indian chief so what! On the other hand if anyone was motivated to become a Chiropractor or Orthopedic Surgeon after their experiences with Boston Whalers --- chuckle now that might be pertinent content ---

This forum is about Whalers and related topics and shouldn't be loaded up with nonsensical post.

If you haven't got a question relevant or answer to some one else's in respect to Whalers or boating in general then lets not dream something up to post just to post that is irrelevant.

Just my thoughts after reading JimH's post on the subject of off topic post and the replies received to date.

One other thing on "Poles".

JimH has covered most areas relevant to Whalers and there uses, not sure if he is trying to branch out into market consulting with this information --- maybe -- one never knows does one --- chuckle --- however on a statistical basis the polls taken so far would be flawed when you look at the sampling used --- heh heh

Sorry for the brain fart on "poles", I had no intention of offending our members of eastern European heritage. My post was just a question regarding an established feature of this site. If I'm wasting your time bigz, I do apologize. I thought it might be interesting from a boating perspective. I should have been more specific. The main point though, was if we were doing polls.

Of note: It seems some members are getting a little tightly wound lately. For the last year plus, I've greatly enjoyed the banter and exchange of ideas that have traded here. I thought the beginning of another boating season for those whom are weather bound in the winter would sooth those nerves. I guess I'm wrong. Sorry for the intrusion.

Read 'Range of Forum' in META-forum started by jimh. hauptjm, I don't know why some got so irritated. You certainly didn't irritate me. It's possible others didn't read jimh's post in META. I wish it could be on the general post so more might see it. I just happened to find that discussion as I don't regularly read there.

I meant 'Range of Discussion', not 'Range of Forum' in META-Forum.

Hey hauptjm don't take it personal, sorry if it appeared to be directed at you, more of a general statement. .

The reason why I made the statement is JimH's recent post in Meta section on how topics have been going off course from the original concept of this forum which is true they are to a degree.

I understood what you meant by a "pole" or poll in your first post. Think JimH understood your "idea" also. If he feels that would be "cool" information I am sure he might design one.

I didn't think hauptjm was asking for anyone's occupation. BTW, the member profile already includes a field for "occupation".
