Did anyone see the evening news tonight with the video of the whaler half-way over a dam and completly swamped? I believe it was in Minnesota. Apparently the river police were able to rescue the people. It was difficult to tell what happened to the boat. It appeared to be a new whaler 13 sport and was filled with water and pinned to the dam, but not submerged. The owner of the boat claimed the engine wouldn't restart. Either way, the people on the whaler made it out alive but a good boat can't always overcome bad judgement. That part of the river was probably not suitable for any boat. I would be interested to hear if anyone is from the area and has more of the story.

If only they had had proper anchor.
Reminds me of the story of the last known survivor to go over Niagara Falls. This happened in the '60s. A man was out with his daughter and son above the falls, in the part of the river that is navigateable. The motor quit. That daughter was grabbed on the Canadian side within feet of the going over. the father went over and died. the son went over, survived and was rescued by one of the "Maid of the Mist" boats; he was wearing a PFD.
The people on board the boat in MN. apperantly had no anchor and no PFDs as they were given some by the rescuers.

I saw it. You beat me too it with this post! I was watching the morning news and they had close ups of the rescue. Whaler swamped and on the edge of a 4ft drop than another 100 ft drop beyond that.
The Female victim mentioned that it was a Boston Whaler and unsinkable but....
Hmm - Merc on the BW and the rescue boat had twin Evinrude 90’s. I think Ficht’s!
At least no one got hurt. What happened to the Whaler?
