I was wondering if any of you could give me some input on the best way to mount downriggers on my 15 Dauntless. Dipsy divers don't get me down to where the fish are this time of year. I've seen a few setups but they seem somewhat primitive. I want something "whaler-worthy", If you know what I mean.

I'll e-mail you a picture of the set up on my Montauk, the same should work on the Dauntless.

Hey Sherm,

I am not sure, but does the Dauntless have flush mounted rod holders in the gunwalle? If so, "gimble mounts" are available from Cabela's. That is what I use.

Something tells me we had this conversation in my driveway....

Brian

You can't use downriggers on the Deschutes :)

FYI unless somebody butchered the gunwales the Dauntless 15 won't have flush mounted rod holders. The hull of a Dauntless 15 is completely twin hulled and foam filled including the gunwales; just like a Montauk.

Sherm,

If you have the short rear deck you could very easily mount som base plates on that. You would need some risers though. otherwise you are going to need to use rail mounts, Scotty makes good rail mounts for their line that are quickly and completey removable. Cannon has some rail mounts for theirs as well. Tite Lock and Bert's Custom Tackle (check Cabela's, Bass Pro, and Boaters World) might be able to help as well.

Thanks guys.It looks like my only option is to go with the rail mounts like you suggested. Are the Scotty products good with the horizontal reels?
