Maybe this should be more than one thread, but it is a compilation of things from my recent business trip along the Georgia coast.

First, while at a gas station in Brunswick, I saw a boat that from the outside looked like about a 13' Whaler. When the owner came out we had a good talk. The boat is a "Rouge" and I understand that it was manufactured in Tennessee. Hull shape appears to be a Classic Whaler knock off, but interior is no liner splatter coat with added in fiberglass seats and console. By the way, the owner was doing well catching the allowed 48 quarts(I think) of shrimp on the outgoing tide.

I also stopped at Bubba Gumbos on one of the creeks for dinner. Food was good, and you are sitting right next to the shrimp boats and other boats.

In the parking lot was a 13' Whaler that appeared to be about a '70. It had wood seats and forward hatch, but it also had a fiberglass console that extended about 2/3 across the boat. It appeared to be original and looked like a nice set up. Has anyone ever seen this fiberglass console?

I picked up an Edgewater catalog. One of the first things I noticed was that in their ad for their 14' boat they showed 3 boys sitting on the edge or jumping out of the boat, just like the old whaler ad. I remember some discussion a while ago about Whaler abandoning this ad. I think it is a great picture that really captures the joy of being on the water.

To close, I drove down to Isle of Hope Marina just below Savannah to see the Suzuki motors. They did not have many in stock, but seemed to be nice people. It is a very nice setting with nice houses, big porches, and hamocks. Met a guy with a chocolate lab, very well tempered(the dog). The owner said the dog is a master working on grand master. Watched a boat hoist launched, and got to go on a brief boat ride on a beautiful day. Boat was a 220 carolina skiff sea chaser with a 200 suzuki. very quick.

Well, thanks for indulging this post. These were just some of the pleasant parts of the trip, and I wanted to share. Kelly

I remember the photo of the boys jumping off the gunwale of the Whaler--in fact I thought I had a JPEG of that one on the website somewhere! Can't seem to find it now.

For the new Whaler-13 Sport I recall seeing an ad that shows a young couple, no kids, at the launch ramp. They are in their late twenties, rather yuppie in appearance. The Whaler is still on the trailer. It's a different message.

Jimh,
It's under the "models" section of the "13' reference" section.

Thanks for the reminder!

Here is that classic shot of the boys swimming off the Whaler.
