Anyone have experience with the Whaler GTX 18? (Outboard and/or I/O). I'm looking at a used basket case I/O. (1985) |

If the boat has the Mercruiser outdrive, parts and service are readily available, although expensive. These drives are pretty bulletproof; I've owned two Mercruisers, both of which were very dependable. I don't know if BW installed the OMC drives, if so, I'd run for the door. |

The other conventional wisdom on I/O propulsion is that it's fine for fresh water trailered boats, not so fine for salt water in-water stored boats. |
