I put down a deposit today on a new montauk, subject to a sea trial. I read in Jimh excellent article regarding this boat that the m.s.r.p. is around $17,700 with the fishing package adding another $700. What should I expect to pay in dealer prep/ shipping charges?

Hi Matthew, I just got off the phone with my local dealer in Portland, Oregon and was quoted $22,653 out the door with the fishing package, 90HP 4-stroke, and trailer.

Rodger, Thanks---must be nice to have no sales tax in Oregon.Tsuriki, I did negotiate a price, but since the deal is subject to my sea trial and inspection of the boat--there may be a bit of play if I can find what normal dealer prep/ shipping charges run. Thanks, Matt |

MatthewSince you live here in Seattle you will be buying you boat from Lake Union Sea Ray, Redmond Sea Ray or the new location in Tacoma. These locations are affiliated with the dealerships in both Spokane and Portland. I spent 3 years as parts manager for the Seattle and Redmond locations. They are a class A operation. They are going to make a profit on the sale, as they should. They are also going to be there for you if you have a problem. Their dealer rating for customer service with Sea Ray, Boston Whaler and Mercury is as high as you can get. Don't expect any negotion on shipping or rigging. Push your salesman for a Coast Guard kit, life jackets-fire extinguisher-flotation cushion-flare kit-mooring lines and fenders. Drop me an e-mail. Which store? Who is the salesman? I'll try and put in a word for you. Dick |

That's one thing you can't put a price on, having a dealer that will stand behind their work. |

Any chance you could show off that new Montauk to the Rendevevous at Blake Island on 7/13? That might be a point of negotiation... delivery date. |

I am excited! My sea trial went well(great ride, good balance, and the boat seems alot bigger than 17') and I have purchased the boat. I am pricing a few options; bow cushion, kicker bracket, swim ladder, bimini top. The salesman was getting the pricing info from the factory as I believe this was the first new Montauk they had in stock. So I will know more tomorrow. I should have it well before the get together at Blake. Thanks to jimh and tabasco for the pricing info, pictures, and narrative! I felt I was well informed prior to negotiating. Matt

Contrary to Dick's claim, my personal experience with one of the Northwest SeaRay/Boston Whaler dealer was a nightmare. The sales guy and their staff are friendly people but the boat I bought from them had so many problems that it took about 4 months from time of deposit for them to get almost everything right. Now I have to deal with a leaky lower unit which is scheduled to be worked on in a couple of weeks. -Ivan |

The price on my Montauk was $18,600. This included boat, trailer, swim package, fishing package, sun top, USCG package, depth/fish finder. My dealer also said that BW was limiting each dealer to just 2 Montauks in the June production run. Another dealer in a different city said they were still ordering them for customers. <shrug> Annie |
