It's been about a year since I saw a discussion regarding depthfinders....Loran, Hummingbird, Garmin... Looking for a unit in the $300 to $500 range for a friend's Montauk. Any ideas?

Take a look at www.lowrance.com
For the money you can't beat the X85 / X91.
High power x-ducer, nitrogen filled enclosure and excellent display with cold cathode lighting.

dgp,

Yes, this was the model everyone was talking about. Where is the best place to purchase?

Thanks for your help.

Ron, this is the thread that I started; http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000458.html .
I bought mine at the local West Marine store. I think I found a better price at Bass Pro and West Marione price-matched it. Don

After checking out the pros and cons of a multidude of units on the market,I settled for a Si-Tex Profish III. What really set it apart from the others was while other fishfinders LCD "washout" in the sunlight, the Si-Tex color screen stays clear and easy to read. It sells for around $400.00. It also has all the "bells and whistles" that I need.

If you are looking for the X-85, check at Gander Mountain. I purchased mine last December for $299.00.
